New York City – City health officials are reportedly offering a big financial incentive to doctors who keep their patients heart healthy.

The Department of Health is offering thousands of dollars in cash bonuses to doctors whose patients show improvement.
As part of a privately-funded $4 million program, doctors can earn up to $200 by reducing a patient’s blood pressure and cholesterol levels and having the patient participate in anti-smoking programs.
Each doctor can earn up to $20,000.
More than 200 doctors at practices that use electronic health records will qualify for the incentives.
Critics charge the money could be better spent – especially when the DOH has been forced to cut 10 percent of its budget.

More than 200 doctors can each earn 20K for reducing patients cholesterol. So the city that has it’s hand out because it’s starving, has 4 million dollars to spend, in order to make Health commissioner Thomas frieden look good? And of course the starving doctors need the mony more than the unemployed single mothers and families with two working parents and 10 kids. Dr Frieden in case you don’t recall is the one that wrote a letter to the public warning of the danger of metzitzah bipeh. Dr Frieden co-authored a study on the seroprevalance of HSV infection in NYC based on race, sex, age, and other demographic and geographic variables. Having published on the variability of HSV depending on these demographics, Dr. Frieden supported the attack on metziztah bipeh even though two of the three medical papers on the subject used U.S. statistics to support their assertions in their Israeli and Canadian cases, demonstrating a complete lack of understanding of the epidemiology of HSV. The Israeli and Canadian statistics tell a very different story. Thank you Dr. frieden for wasting 4 million dollars of taxpayer money. We all feel a lot healthier now.
