I thought that when someone drinks to excess he may exaggerate his normal behavior, but, he won’t do something that goes against his nature. When a person who is always in control of himself drinks he doesn’t usually do crazy things. It may loosen his tongue but, he won’t goo jump off a building. The guy must have been somewhat off the wall to begin with.
Raba obviously did not literally kill Rabi Zeira and then magically bring him back to life. All stories similar to this one need to be understood figuratively and not literally.
