Long Island, NY – A New York businessman is launching a new kosher tequila in time for Cinco de Mayo.
Martin Silver says Agave 99 will be on the market in time for the holiday that celebrates Mexico’s defeat of French forces on May 5, 1862.
Silver, president of Long Island-based Star Industries, says he wants to satisfy the craze for high-end tequila with one that observant Jews can drink — “to help the Mexican economy and the Jews.”
Silver says a half million cases of the 99-proof kosher tequila are being produced at a Mexican plant using methods certified by a rabbi. It will retail for $41.95 a bottle.
The product launch — with Mexican songs sung in Yiddish and Spanish — is set for May 5, but it will also be sold earlier, for Passover.
L’chaim! or Salut =)
Is the worm kosher too ?
Can we use it for the daled kosos?
I seem to recall that Mexico voted on the UN resolution that said “Zionism = Racism”. Why do we want to help their economy?
Tequila does not have a worm in the bottle. The drink with the worm is a low-quality mezcal, whose manufacturer started putting it in as a marketing gimmick.
there is another Kosher Tequile on the market with an ou certificate for “PASSOVER” its called casa vieja, they have 2 grades a Blanco, & a Anejo, its very good
So does this mean we have to hear “Hava Tequila” at simchas? 🙂
On Rosh Hashanah we go tekiah, on Purim Teqilah
Excuse me, but who is crazy enough, or extravagant enough, to pay $41.95 for a bottle of booze? That desperate to drink Tequila — even if it is certified kosher — I AM NOT.
And if you were foolish enough to pay that much, you couldn’t use it for the Four Cups anyway. The late Rav Blumenkrantz, ztl, in discussing the beverage to be drunk at the Seder in his authoritative The Laws of Pesach: A Digest, makes it clear that uncooked red wine is the preferred beverage, followed by a number of other options (such as wine and grape juice, wine with water, etc), Only at the bottom of the priority list does he list what he calls chamar medeena, which could include a non-wine alcoholic beverage, but ONLY if either A), a person’s health does not permit him to drink either wine or grape juice, even if diluted with water, or B) if wine or grape juice are not available — a highly unlikely scenario under most normal circumstances..
To me (at least at this point) driving a car with the mercedes/ vw or any of those brands who’s emplem is disayed on the front of the vehicle is like driving with a swastika in front of my car (and for those who know the swastica has nothibg to do with anti semitism). My grandparents and family slaved for those companies, I can’t bare the thought of them seeing me in that car.
The use of the worm is exclusive to mezcal, since the Mexican standards authority, Norma Oficial Mexicana (NOM), prohibits adding insects or larvae to tequila.
Have we become so addicted to alchohol this garbage. We cant survive one week without it. This, when many people dont have money for basic food for Paysach. Milhouse, you should be ashamed to support such frivality.
Vodka + Kalua = Black Russian
Vodka + Kalua + Tequila = Black Russian with a mexican accent
Vodka + orange juice = screwdriver
Vodka + orange juice + milk of magnesia = Phillips screwdriver
The tequila is kosher for pesach but are any of the mixes K for P? Or can you just mix it with fruit juice?
Where can I get some in Chicago or Skokie pre-Pesach (before Pasover)?
Donde puede buscar lo antes de pesach?
