New York, NY – New Campaign Against Smoking for Children’s Sake

New York, NY – The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, which has made smoking cessation one of its top priorities, has unveiled a new series of television advertisements that seek to tug the heartstrings rather than gross out the viewer.

“If this is how your child feels after losing you for a minute, just imagine if they lost you for life,” the narrator says. The ads will run in English and Spanish on local network and cable television channels through April 15.

Two other ads, while less emotionally charged, carry the same message.

“When you smoke around kids, you expose them to thousands of chemicals that trigger several health problems, like painful ear infections, crippling asthma, deadly pneumonia,” one ad says. “Cigarettes are eating you and your kids alive. Quit smoking today.”

The final ad states: “Every time you smoke, cigarettes are eating you alive. Smoking eats away at nearly every vital organ and tissue of the body. Cigarettes are eating you alive.”

All smokers – PLEASE continue to smoke – the more the better.
The quicker the stupid ones are depleted from among us, the better it will be for everyone else.

#2 Learn how to spell.

Bloomy says we are broke, the blind one says we are broke – yet there is enough money to push Bloomys pet projects – no smoking, no cars, no jobs, yes taxes.

What a country!

While I agree that there are some people that benefit from smoking (ie: overstressed, psychriatric, maybe the overweight, etc.) It cannot be done on the cost of someone else, especially kids.

I am a smoker like many in my family. It is important to look at facts as facts.

1. The rate of CANCER (non specific) is only 1.4% higher in smokers than non smokers.
2. You eat more carcinogens in a day than you could ever smoke in a day.

That is not to say that smoking is good for you. Its not. Those who say that smokers always die young, take a look at my family deaths in the last 10 years. This really is the truth:

1. Aunt died at age 62 of brain cancer – Non Smoker
2. Cousin died of blood cancer at age 55 – Non Smoker
3. Uncle died of pancreatic cancer at age 50 – Non Smoker
4. Grandfather died at age 96 – SMOKER
5. Wife’s grandfather died at age 97 – SMOKER (held an unlit cig in his hands in the hospital)
6. Great uncle died at age 93 – SMOKER
7. Uncle died of esophageal cancer at age 56 – Smoked as a teen, but Non Smoker.

That really is the 7 deaths in my family over the last 10 years. I left out an infant who died as I didn’t think it applied (just to keep it honest).

Don’t kid yourselves. Smoking is a bad habit that raises your risk of cancer and other diseases. Just be aware, that smoking is just the tip of an iceberg of carcinogens that you take into your body ever single day.

Oxygen is a carcinogen! Stop breathing AND LIVE LONGER! In all seriousness, this comes from the same health dept that refuses to closes gay bathhouses, an AIDS breeding ground for over 20 years. But insists on banning metzitzah because of 7 alleged cases in the last 76 years.

While nicotine might benefit some, there are other ways to ingest nicotine besides through smoking. There is nicotine gum, and some articles on the net talk about electronic cigarettes which dispense nicotine vapor without any combustion.
