The Federal Trade Commission announced Friday that a U.S. District Court in Chicago issued a restraining order demanding that three companies accused of aggressively making automated calls to sell auto warranties across the country cease the pitches, The New York Times reported.
“For the first time in months, millions of New Yorkers and people across the country will finally have some relief from these annoying calls with potentially thousands saved from falling into this scam,” said U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., who added that he himself had received a robocall on his cell phone.
The two firms identified by the FTC were Voice Touch and Transcontinental Warranty, both operating largely out of Florida, which allegedly violated the National Do Not Call Registry and collected $10 million in sales as a result of the calls and mailings, in which the firms falsely told call recipients their car warranties were expiring, the Times said.
B”H for that. As many times as I pressed 2 – to opt out, I still kept on getting phone calls.
Great job senetor!
B’H for that. When my pressing 2 failed to stop these annoying calls, I press 1, and when a human voice picks up, and says, he is gonna transfer me now, hold on, I said first remove my number from your calling list, he laughed, and supposedly did that. Then on my other line, same thing, but he asks how you doin today? I said, will be doing much better once you remove my number from your calling list. He said OK, and hung up. Well, we will see…..
Those responsible whould be locked up and forced to listen to their own recordings over and over and over… Give them some buttons to press to stop it — but the messages keep playing over and over and over…
things apparently only get fixed if big politisions get screwed first by a robo call
I was getting these calls on my VOIP line in Israel, and I don’t even have a car
I complained to the FCC many times . I filled out forms and made official complaints a lot of times. I told them what time, date and number from where call was made,if it was available. Finally the FCC answered me in a letter that in their investigations, there was nothing that they could do…..and it was not against the laws in how they found it. I dont know why they said that because I am on the do not call list.
As much as i ignore those calls, they should all be arrested for aggrevating me.
Hopefully now something will be done and those calls will stop.
U press 1, when the operator gets on u ask them to hold for a minute whil u get your credit card, then put ur phone on speaker and wait…. And wait.
They’re still at it. I just got another of these calls. Thinking to follow #9 ’s advice, I pressed 1 to get someone on the line, but before I could be transferred the line went dead. I don’t know what that’s about.
