The new regulation recognises the validity of ‘shechita’ or Jewish animal slaughter according to religious methods and requires that kosher meat can be traded and sold freely in every EU member state.

“The European Jewish Congress is delighted that the new EU regulation ensures that communities in member states that kill animals for food according to humane Jewish law will be able to continue doing so,’ Moshe Kantor, president of the European Jewish Congress (EJC) said.

He added: “This represents a victory for the Jewish community and religious minorities generally throughout the EU.”   But he said that “we must remain vigilant to ensure that individual governments do not seek to impose new requirements on religious slaughter“.

“The regulation specifically makes provision for the killing of animals for food by religious communities to be exempted from the requirement for pre-stunning, and it contains no discriminatory labeling requirements for meat slaughtered using the shechita method nor for post-cut stunning to be enforced,” explained Aba Dunner, executive director of the Conference of European Rabbis.

“Furthermore, no member state will be able to prevent meat slaughtered according to the Jewish religious method being traded in its territory.”

B”h. Waiting for the next EU regulation; Due to the need for cows to exercise their tendons, any peta member found wandering near a shlachthoiz is to be bent over a hay bale and kicked in the backside by every cow on it’s final journey. Earplugs should be inserted into the cows’ ears to minimize their discomfort at hearing the shrieks of the peta members who are providing the said cows with the opportunity to exercise

“The regulation specifically makes provision for the killing of animals for food by designated experts from within religious communities to be exempted from the requirement for pre-stunning, and it contains no discriminatory labeling requirements for meat slaughtered using the shechita method nor for post-cut stunning to be enforced,”

What the article doesn’t say is that for yiddin, the “designated experts” can only be chasideshe shochtim and preferably, Bobover from Monsey.

People – this is the side show. It’s all about ensuring that Halal is allowed in the EU. It just so happens that shechita falls under the same set of rules. This has nothing to do with Achdus, or the love of yidden or ‘Jew Power’. It’s about making sure that the massive Halal market in Europe and the jobs it conmmands are kept safe

Think about what just happened. The EU has effectively stopped there hundreds year old campaign to assur schechitah. They do not deserve a thank you, nor any bit of appreciation just because they voted to stop being anti-semites.
