Lakewood, NJ – Health officials say a mumps outbreak in New Jersey is linked to a recent outbreak in Brooklyn, N.Y.

About 30 people in Lakewood, who range in age from 1 to 40 years old, have come down with the disease in the last two weeks.
The Ocean County Health Department says the cases have been primarily contained to one section of the township and some of those infected may have come into contact with each other. Health officials say most had been fully vaccinated against the disease.
Symptoms include fever, headache, fatigue and swelling of the salivary glands.
Mumps can be spread through sneezes, coughs and exchanges of salivary fluid.
How can you get mumps if you’ve been innoculated?
The innoculation is only 90% effective but somehow in this case they are claiming on the news that 75% of the people with mumps had the vaccine. Go figure!

The reason this hapens is because of reduced herd immunity. The “ibberchacumim” in our community who think they know better than their docs decide not to vaccinate their kids, and put every one elses kid at risk when they play together in Yeshivah. Until the Yidden teach their children and themselves proper hygiene, including washing their hands with soap and HOT water–communicable diseases will spread like wildfire among us.

Please help me understand!
Is it reduced herd immunity or just that the strain is a little different or perhaps the famous MMR is less effective than assumed. Most of those with mumps seem to have had normal routine MMR vaccines on schedule.
Perhaps Pediatricians should clamor for and start using a separate mumps vaccine!
Perhaps the US Government (FDA) should actually test each batch for proper antigens and proper storage and sterility!
Perhaps you and all your colleagues should use single dose vials, it sounds a lot better than the multi dose vials that used to have mercury. Please, the cost can not be that much!
Unless you can explain the kids that were vaccinated getting mumps perhaps find another scapegoat
