Data is fed into the banks’ computers by Jewish workers on Shabbos Night, he explained. Although account holders would be permitted to gain benefit from any deposits recorded on Shabbos – since the work was performed at that time for the bank’s own benefit, meaning the depositor is not a partner in the act – still bank customers should try to avoid causing others to stumble, said Rav Yosef.
Deposits made late Thursday, and even more so on Friday morning, are almost certain to be entered into the computer on Shabbos, he noted.

While it likely that Rav Yosef, Shilita is serious, this recent proliferation of chumrahs have become a joke and making most frumme yiddin believe this rabbonim have lost all contact with reality. At what point do they realize that they are being ignored and becoming the subject of jokes. Given all the serious problems confronting EY and the chareidi community, they seem to be obcessed with issues that no one cares about. By doing so, they further marginalize their relevance to klal yisroel.
How about not doing anything? Don’t take elevators, don’t use banks, don’t walk on the street if you are a woman. The Chumras are getting out of control!
Jews shouldn’t be working on Shabbat night whether in a bank or otherwise. If we can contribute to there being no work on that night by doing our banking earlier in the week is that not a better situation? How is this chillul Hashem any less of one than driving a car on Shabbat? If it’s ok to protest a parking garage being open, it is surely ok to instruct one’s followers not to bank at a time that causes an avera.
Now if I only had some money to not deposit this coming Friday. LOL

do not buy from internet companies also you order might be fulfilled by a yid on shobbos, and calculate when you are mailing a letter so it does not arrive on shobbos since the postman might be a yid and you will be causing him to carry.
I think this opens a can of worms
Does using electricity on shabbos (such as by leaving on lights or crock pots or having preset timers) create work for jews at power plants on shabbos? Does turning on a faucet or flushing the loo mean that jewish water and sewer workers in Israel will be working on shabbos? Does staging sit ins and protests on Shabbos (I won’t even mention throwing things) cause the need for more jewish police to have to be on duty?
The father, Harav Ovadia, shlita is nearly 100 years old and these kind of mindless psaks can be attributed to age but what is the son’s excuse?? Why are they trivializing halacha to this degree. Will the storyline be that some deranged gabbai took his answer out of context or that he didn’t mean what he said. At this rate, we will have a window from motzi shabbos until tuesday afternoon to do all our business and will have to turn off all the air conditioners on shabbos because otherwise our schvitzing and body heat makes the thermostat turn on the compressor on the air conditioner. Are there no rabbonim left in EY who can combine lamdus and common sense or has the latter attibute been determined to be apikorsus.
If depositing the check on Thursday afternoon or Friday causes chillul Shabbat, then doesn’t dropping the envelope that contains a into a mailbox on Wednesday or Thursday also lead to chillul Shabbat?
Since when have we become a nation with such disrespect for Rabbonim. His psak is about basic chiilul shabbos and not a chumra!
I must assume there is a direct relationship to those reading these articles and disrespect for Rabbonim. BÝ being on the Internet, we loose sensitivity to yiddishkeit and start to believe everything is a chumra.

With all respect to the father, chacham Ovadia, Rav Yosef Jr. is no gadol. He is a political hack for shaas who has fired mashgichim because they supported another political party, tried to “buy” his way to appointment as chief rabbi,and has made other stupid comments such as a psak several years ago that parents were obligated to change the name of any child named after Herzl or other zionist hero just as they couldn’t name thier child after a nazi leader. Every time he opens his mouth he embarrases his father, who has been having his own problems recently.

However i have yet to hear a psak as to why we are permitted to flush toilets on Shabbos as this inevitably leads to jews working in the sewage treatment plants

The only question here is whether Rav Yosef indeed ascertained that those who work in the banks on Friday night are Jews. If so, and sadly I fear it is so, he is correct.
Isn’t the ones doing the chillul Shabbat the ones who enter the transactions? Isn’t the reality that in EY there are enough freie yidden that without me the system will still operate (proof: I am not there now) and isn’t hutz laaretz even more like that???
Why don’t we tell the bank workers: don’t work on the Shabbat!

The Rav shlita himself is saying it’s only ‘prudent’ but some of us – the holier than thou’ kind already pushing this…
I remember when the shaitel scandal broke out without a fitting halachic decision, my rav warned: the halacha’s system is collapsing with Rabbis are making carrier decisions instead of halachic ones…

A big problem is that we don’t know which kol korehs/psakim are real and which were based on an asken going in with some facts and convincing a gadol and which will be contradicted later.
Forgetting the concert, the shaitels and the water, we already had quite a few chumrahs announced in the last year and a half. The only other that I can remember offhand was the no makeup for kallahs (though that seemed to be just for that community).
I would much sooner be open if after a psak was announced over there, gedolim here such as members of the Moetzes, Reb. Dovid Feinstien or name your gadol (not joking) would agree with it.
