Williamsburg, NY – The NYPD bomb squad detonated a suspected “Drano bomb” on a street in trendy Williamsburg, Brooklyn, early Sunday.

The crude, improvised explosive device was safely blown up by the police unit shortly after it was spotted on the S. Third St. sidewalk, witnesses said.
“I’m really scared,” said Noah Starr, 29, a TV producer who lives nearby. “This is a very quiet block, a lot of families – it’s definitely not a place where you’d expect a bomb to go off.”
Cops and firefigthers closed off the area surrounding the suspicious device and did not let residents return to their homes until 4 a.m.
Investigators were not certain whether the device – a combination of the Drano drain-cleaning liquid and aluminum placed in a bottle – was a prank or a legitimate cleaning mixture left outside by accident.
“I feel really unsafe now,” said Kristen Alongi, 20, who lives on the block. “I guess this is just another wakeup call. People who say that this stuff can’t happen in their neighborhood, but it can.”
We must let him run this city into the ground the next 4 years.
Hey look, crime is just plummeting
I wonder why they didn’t just cover up this story. Isn’t it their job these days to just silence any news related to crimes? Because hey ever since bloomberg we live in the safest city
I never knew Williamsburg can be defined as “trendy”.
Joseph – Check out North of Broadway, and especially the North streets. It is possibly the largest ‘trendy’ community in the WORLD.
“trendy” means high rents and high costs of living for the same apt as 20 years ago.
The parts of Williamsburg North of Broadway and especially north of Grand street are considered trendy. Many young beatnicks have moved into the same apartments their great grandparents strove to escape from.
They seem to spend all day online in a coffee bar (free internet, all using Apple notebooks). The work ethic is not very strong because they feel they don’t need money (as long as the trust fund is still sending the checks). They are very often well educated and of Jewish parents.
I have seen them wander into Natan Borlam’s.
Actually, this type of bomb can spread glass shrapnel, poisonous chlorine gas and hydrochloric acid droplets for a quarter of a mile, this is NOT a joke and NOT a legitimate cleaning mixture left on the street. There are many young parents with babies in this area, including heimishe people who own the buildings. 8 days ago, a terrorist detonated an identical device on a Baltimore bus. On June 22nd, someone dropped an identical device onto two little boys on South 8th and Driggs Avenue in Williamsburg, causing severe caustic burns RM”L. No arrests were made at that time.
