Ottawa – Al Jazeera’s English-language news network will be coming soon to the cable and satellite dial in Canada.

The broadcast regulator has approved the Quatar-based network’s application for a Canadian licence.
The international news network is already broadcast in 100 countries on television and via the Internet.
The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission noted that the network had considerable support for its application.
Groups such as the Canadian Jewish Congress and B’nai Brith Canada did not oppose the licence, but said they would remain vigilant to the content broadcast.
The English network is separate from its Arabic-language counterpart which faced considerable opposition when it applied for a licence in 2003.

Its actually good to have access to all the news networks even though we don’t agree with their spin and editorial perspective.
Why is it that the Jewish organizations did not oppose this application. AlJazeera spreads hate and lies and supports terrorism. What is with Canada? Oh, I know, maybe it has something to do with the HUGE Islamic population there. Hashem must protect us!

Trust the Bnei Brith to listen to every word that is broadcast from Al Jazeera. Canada has stringent anti-hate laws, and the first hate phrase articulated by this vituperous bunch, known for its villification, will be in court faster than you can say Al Jazeera. In my view this is a much better way, taher than trying to muzzle Al Jazeera in an ultra democratic society, obsessed with freedom of speech.
While in Poland last year the hotel I stayed at in Krakow had among other news broadcasts, i.e. BBC, CNN World News, and some others, Al Jezeera News. I must tell you i was shocked to hear them as the most fair news report, believe it or not, even criticizing Arab phoniness towards Israel in peace talks etc.
Al Jezeera news is one of the most balanced when reporting on the Palestinian-Israeli conflicts. Of course it will be biased towards the Arab perspective, but so what? Every Jewish publication is biased the other way. The only way to gain perspective on an issue is to listen to both sides. Those who shut out their opponents will never resolve anything.
And if you really can’t stand hearing news that doesn’t parrot the Israeli view, think of it as “knowing your enemy”.
