The tension on the school board is rooted in the varied cultural and religious communities that make up East Ramapo.

The five-member bloc that voted in favor of the hiring represent the Orthodox and Hasidic Jewish communities, most of whom send their children to yeshivas, or private religious schools.

”I think the five board members are trying to fend us off for another day,“ said Mariel Pina, who graduated from Ramapo High School in 2003. ”We are all outraged, but hopefully they will make a change.“

On Wednesday night, the board will meet again to discuss whether D’Agostino will remain the appointed lawyer.

Great…this is what happens when “we won,” by electing people who are incapable of behaving respectfully and like gentlemen. It costs us in the end. Every time Mr. You-know-who gets the Library budget voted down, there are no more 7-day books for ladies to read on Shabbos, and they have to go out and spend $20 or more on every single book….which far exceeds the cost of the increased budget. The real estate developers do win though, as do the mosdos, and guess who pays????

There definitlk is some “Agenda” on behalf of the others. Like what effect does hiring an attorney have to do with the kids education. Can someone explain that to me?

Why don’t these five ehrleche yids try to improve the school system so that jewish parents don’t have to send their kids to private schools rather than cutting the funding and trashing the schools which have a high percentage of minority children with special learning needs. All they are doing is creating a racial divide and steretyping jews as obcessed with reducing their taxes without regard to the consequences.

This should be a lesson for every jewish community ….If you bring the VOTES out you have a say in the local decisions…Those anti-observant jews always had the last word how OUR dollars are spent for the benefit of THEIR children. They wasted millions of OUR tax dollars and all we could of done is watch our TAX bills getting bigger and bigger…..Now b”h we have the majority and those people we voted for are making sure our TAX dollars will be spent under a microscopic glass….We should all applaud those Askunim and all those who went out to VOTE…..

The reason they want to hire the new attorney is because of his experience in the five towns where the orthodox control the board as well. He has experience with the issues involved and maintaining civility under those circumstances.
It appears the non-frum are just there to put stumbling blocks before the frum.

Please search Youtube for the prior meetings and you will see ample evidence of the divide. These meetings were an absolute disgrace and create a striking Chillul Hashem.

While we are entitled to our representation and the benefits of democracy – the rudeness and disrespect shown are an outrage. Furthermore – can we not find people to serve who can speak English properly and understand how to behave in a formal setting?

Shabbat shalom! May Weisel and his group think about their deeds and have a change of heart and motive. Do a mitvah and stop cutting the East Ramapo budget for ulterior motives. Give the kinder the electives and sports they deserve, especially music and art instead of study halls.
