The first emergency responders on the scene reported “chickens everywhere.”

An official for the company told 69 News the truck was hauling more than 6,300 chickens. “My driver called me right after it happened,” said Art Heckman of the Mehadrin Kosher Poultry in Birdsboro.

“That’s how I found out what went on. I tried to get other drivers and people here right away.”

Many of the crates rolled off the truck and opened up on impact. Quite a few of the chickens were killed. Crews on the scene worked to round up those that survived the crash.

They say they followed all procedures set forth by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and that it’s likely none of the chickens will be used for human consumption.

chickens aren’t kosher while they’re alive. And they sure aren’t kosher when they’re killed in a truck accident.

After such an accident many of the chickens may have broken bones and no longer be kosher after schita. I would assume they go to Kentucky Fried.

If some of the chickens were injured, they can be nursed back to health and then would be totally ok for schecting even for mehadrin who rely upon chassideshe hashgacha. If in doubt, the mashgiach can x-ray the birds to assure there are no fractures of broken bones.

All the chickens are unfit for kosher consumption regardless of their current condition, since they were dropped.

To all those who had the “he’arah” that chickens cannot be kosher or Mehadrin while they are alive, read it again – “Mehadrin Kosher” is the name of the company, not adjectives describing the chicken. So stop crying “foul” (wah wah wah, sorry).

From what I understand the driver must be chasidish, the gasoline must have a chasidishe hashgocha, the chickens have to have beards in order for the chickens to be labeled chasidishe shechita.

hurry and feed them the water from Vineland that supposedly has benzine in it. Benzine would give a refuah to the chickens

they cannot be used even if the halacha permits it because if u read the whole post you will see that it says i Quote :They say they followed all procedures set forth by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and that it’s likely none of the chickens will be used for human consumption. not because of halacha but because its the protocol under the dept of agriculture.
