New York, NY – Snow: NYC Public Schools To Be Closed Wednesday

New York, NY – New York City public schools will be closed on Wednesday due to the major snowstorm expected to blanket the region overnight, sources told CBS 2.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg will make the early announcement during a 1 p.m. news conference.

New York City residents were mostly spared from the blizzard-like conditions that paralyzed Washington D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia and most of New Jersey on Saturday, but as CBS 2 Meteorologist John Elliott tells us, the Big Apple won’t be so lucky this time tomorrow.

Forecasters say the nor’easter will develop off the North Carolina coast and intensify into a burst of snow on Wednesday.

Winds will cause blowing and drifting snow greater than the weekend storm.

A Winter Storm Warning has been issued for most of the CBS 2 HD viewing area in Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York, including all five boroughs of New York City, from midnight Tuesday through 6 a.m. Thursday morning.
