Robert, LA – Scientists studying the blown-out well in the Gulf of Mexico now say it’s leaking at least twice as much oil and possibly five times as much as original estimates.

U.S. Geological Survey Director Dr. Marcia McNutt is the leader of a team put together to try to figure out how much oil is coming from the well.
She says results are preliminary but two teams using different methods determined the well is leaking at least 504,000 gallons a day. One team said it might be leaking as much as 798,000 gallons and another said that number might be closer to a million gallons.
The well blew out when the offshore drilling rig Deepwater Horizon exploded April 20.
BP and the Coast Guard had said since then that about 210,000 gallons a day was flowing.

As long as we’re looking for conspiracies, how about this one? Even before this oil spill, Obama did not cut a popular figure with oil company executives. He was always for more regulation, more restrictions on drilling for oil off-shore as well as on land. The Republican party would very much like to see Obama’s popularity drop so far down so as to guarantee a Republican victory in the presidential election of 2012. When trying to understand politicians, one must think like a politician, and I’ve been thinking about what a perfect conspiracy could have been formed by the oil companies and someone in the Republican Party so as to cause this disaster inasmuch as both the oil companies and the Republican Party had something to gain from the anticipated embarrassment of Barack Obama. I will concede that when 11 men died from the original explosion on the rig that that was unexpected, and the fact that it has taken so long to cap the leak may have also been unexpected. But, according to my theory, a major oil disaster was always the targeted outcome. Someone out there tell me that I’m being too cynical. I’m willing to listen.
