Washington – New York Rep. Anthony Weiner has a flair for the dramatic, but his latest gambit seems a little weird — even for him.

Apparently tired of arguing on MSNBC, the lawmaker plans to bring a live goat to a Capitol Hill press conference Thursday to denounce an old nemesis in the federal budget: the subsidy for mohair.

Despite decades of denunciations, the U.S. government still has a mohair subsidy on the books. It began back in the 1950s when the government worried about being able to provide enough material for military uniforms, which were made of wool. Mohair hasn’t been a Pentagon-identified “strategic material” since 1960, according to Weiner’s office.

Yet in the last 10 years, the government has paid $24 million in mohair subsidies, mostly to Angora goat farmers in Texas, according to the congressman.

Funny that a guy who voted for TARP, Stimulus, and Healthcare cares about a pidley 24 million dollar subsidy for “Made in America” Mohair. Mohair subsidy fighter or not, can’t wait to vote this guy out.

I believe that Congressman Weiner should call for subsidies to farmers who raise milk goats. More goat’s milk is consumed all over the world (except for the US) .than cow’s milk, and goat’s milk is less fattening than cow’s milk. We need to eracidate obesity in the US, and this would be a step in the right direction.
