Monticello, NY – The months of July and August typically mean the population of Sullivan County triples as summer visitors move to the Catskills from the City of New York.

Sullivan County Sheriff Michael Schiff each year requests additional deputies to assist in patrols and this year is no exception. The county legislature earlier approved the hiring of six deputies for a 90 day period.
“I’m going to be down seven to eight deputies this summer and the six will bring me up to where I should have been,” he said. “I am very glad the legislature saw their way to give me those deputies for the summer. They will be very important for our office and for the public.”
The Sheriff’s Office and State Police are the two primary countywide policing agencies in Sullivan County.

Yup its not to battle crime its so they can sit in sneaky places on the 42 and give tickets.
they are low-life’s! all year round they don’t see a sole in front of their eyes, and naturaly don’t make a living in places like these, but here comes the summer and close to a million jews come to vacation in sullivan county so they make money by selling their stuff, they get jobs and of-course give as many tickets as they can! BUM’s!!!
Mike Schiff is a great guy and a greater sheriff. If you get a ticket, you probably deserved it!! He’s there for your safety, NOT for your money. He’s probably the most honest fella in Sullivan County government. Talking from personal experience.
where do you find a police for only 2 months a year
as much as we hate cops they are a necessity to keep our driving under control, I myself like to speed a little but imagine there would be no cops on the 17 there will be maniacs going at 90-100 MPH
Imagine if there would be no cops on the 42. How many accidents would happen. Even as it is most ppl drive like animals
Don’t break the law, don’t get a ticket-it’s as simple as that. Drive at the speed limit (or 5mph over, you can probably fight such a ticket if you got one) and don’t drive like the vildechayas in boro park and you won’t get a ticket. Don’t forget to put your cellphone down!
Don’t complain when you get a ticket for breaking the law-would you complain if HKBH punished you for eating chazer?
I see no problem with giving tickets for speeding. Particularly since there are many teenagers driving up there in the summer who lack experience and common sense and get somewhat wild and are careless in the summer. I don’t want some nut zooming 80 mph down 42 while I’m driving my family there.
Thank you sherrif. I hope your men and women are patrolling every road and ticketing anyone who is speeding, not belted or violating any other traffic rule. We read about deaths every year in the mountains and this enforcement keeps those tragedies at bay.

I love the cops in the catskills. Some Yidden think they are above the law. If you don’t want a ticket, then don’t break the law.
ok, how about if the cops spend more time in the shoprite parking lot and walmart lot so that people dont get mugged there.
i am not sure if the ones who are favoring the cops are ignorant or simply don’t drive.
i went out every Shabbos to the Catskills since Shevues. the first three weekends their was no cop in sight . interesting that they were not concerned about the locals getting killed. all of a sudden when the season started a couple of weeks ago. you started seeing them all over the place. supposedly for our safety. that is why it usually changes fro the higher to the lower speed limit on the hill going down
