The National Weather Service says it was a very weak tornado, an F-1, and was on the ground for probably less than five minutes.
So much damage, however, has been done in hard hit areas of Riverdale that, this morning, people will tell you they’re measuring the progress in that you can actually see down some side streets now.
After the storm on Sunday, they said all you saw on some of the streets was just a wall of foliage and broken limbs.
West 254th Street west of Arlington remains blocked this morning.
If you need to get down to Metro-North, you have to go over to 252nd Street and then to Independence to safely detour by car and on foot around that mess.
A few commuters that actually risked it to hop over and duck under the downed limbs and wires – lines that you can not be sure are completely dead. People are walking through all the damage becasue they have a train to catch are now on Palisades Avenue, north of the Metro-North station.
It’s a complete mess and there is a lot of work to do to cleanup from that tornado.
