New York, NY – A serious recession and budget woes didn’t stop City Hall from doling out raises to top commissioners last year, according to data released yesterday by the Empire Center for New York State Policy.

The watchdog updated its popular website www.SeeThroughNY.net with last year’s salaries for all city employees.
Some got bigger raises than others.
*Police Commissioner Ray Kelly’s salary jumped from $188,700 to $205,180.
*ACS Commissioner John Mattingly went from earning $197,326 to $205,219.
*The salaries for HRA Commissioner Robert Doar, Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe and Homeless Services Commissioner Robert Hess (before he stepped down) went from $197,288 to $205,180.
*Health Commissioner Thomas Farley earns $205,180, more than his predecessor Thomas Frieden who earned $189,700.
*FDNY boss Sal Cassano earns $200,096 up from his previous fire position, which paid $192,400.
Schools Chancellor Joel Klein didn’t score a raise but remains the top paid commissioner with an annual salary of $250,000.
Bloomberg authorized the raises last July.
City Hall’s Frank Lombardi also discovered that 59 City Council staffers were paid more last year than the base of their bosses who earn $112,500.
The top earner was Chief of Staff Charles Meara who counted $214,118 followed by Executive Legislative coordinator Ramon Martinez III who received $211,397 and Assistant Director of Legal Services Robert Calandra collected $112,974.

To #2 - Kelly is not a police officer. He is a civilian Commissioner or administrator. Actually, $200,000 per year for an administrator in NYC, for the size of the governmental agency that he administers, is not an extravagant salary.
So if u combine all the raises bloomy gave out, its like hewould take a fullsalary for him self, so realy the city aint saving with this joke that hizonors salary is only $1.00,,,,,,

to poster #6 : That excuse was used for the CEOs of those Wall Street firms and Corporations that went begging for bail-outs just a short time ago. It wasn’t true then, it isn’t true now. Those CEOs were making millions and they brought their companies to their knees. For that they deserved top dollar? These commissioners were getting fair salaries already. There was absolutely no need to pay them more when thousands are being laid off, when fire stations have to close down, when the average citizen’s tax burden gets greater because we need to balance our budget. Bloomberg is totally unjustified in granting these raises.
