Eion Klass, charged with the murder on Wednesday, used to smoke cigarettes with Yoseph Robinson and lived just three doors down from the crime scene. “He liked Yoseph,” said Emre Erkan, the super of the building on Nostrand Ave. where Klass lived with his girlfriend.
Abraham Silverberg, 45, of Brooklyn, said the shooter used to come into the liquor store where Robinson worked every Thursday night for winetasting.
“We’re so shocked. We can’t believe this is the same man,” Silverberg said.
Klass was a desperate man, said Joseph Walcott, 38, who saw Klass before the shooting.
“He was going through some things,” Walcott said. “He said he needed money. I saw him downstairs smoking, looking real stressed. Then I heard about the shooting and waslike, ‘Damn, my boy might have done that.'”
Police believe Klass shot Robinson, 34, in the chest while the clerk was trying to protect his girlfriend a week ago at the MB Vineyards liquor store in Midwood. The suspect was wearing a mask when he burst into the store.
Detectives zeroed in on Klass, 33, after receiving street tips that he was the killer. Investigators traced the license plate number for the suspect’s car and took him into custody early Tuesday, police said.
While questioning him for Robinson’s murder, cops charged him witha robbery committed elsewherein Brooklyn on June 28, according to Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly. Though Klass has not confessed, he made incriminating statements, police sources said. Klass was charged with first-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon.
State records show Klass served 11 years in state prison after a 1998 conviction for attempted murder and robbery. He was released in October and remains on parole.
Details of that crime weren’t immediately available. Robinson, a father of four, was mourned in an emotional ceremony Monday and was scheduled to be buried in Jamaica today next to his grandmother Pearl.
The Jamaican-born Robinson left a hip-hop career and turned away from a troubled past to convert to Judaism 11 years ago.

What a racist thing to say!
And you join the rest of the frum community in using words you don’t understand.
“mesira” has become this big rationalization for not doing the right thing. It does not apply in a case like this. It has just become a good excuse for dishonest people to protect other dishonest people, and to castigate honest people for speaking up when they see someone doing wrong, as they should.
Look up where it says in the Torah “Lo Sa’amod B’dam Rayachoh”, don’t stand in the blood of your brother.
#1 they helped because he was black but thats not the issue there has been numerious attacks in that area and people are scared and fighting back
is there a jewish cemetery in jamaica???
#1 – A murderer is a murderer and should be turned over to the police. I’m not sure if your serious about your statement about mesira or just being provocative, but you sound like an imbecile.
#3, rayachoh means another yid, not what you have in mind.
The arrest of this piece of garbage has nothing to do with food,or the economy. These animals would do this type of thing just for the fun of it. Dont you ever read the newspapers? Nostrand Ave along with the whole area there is a hell hole. Numerous hold ups and home invasions, and break ins ( while the people were in the house,as told to me by the victims themselves) and store hold ups BEFORE this one are common occurance here in this neighborhood. as a matter of fact a few years ago,a whole gang was arrested here who rained havoc on the store owners on nostrand ave. so, this case is nothing new. Unfortunately, this animal had to take it out on Yosef A”H What a loss! He couldnt find other chayas to take it out on.
#8 , Reyechoh does indeed mean another yid, in Lo sa 217;amod b 217;dam reyechoh, as well as any other place in Torah where it is used. I am not telling you to never help a goy in trouble, I am simply telling you not to make Torah p 217;sukim mean whatever you like them to mean.
As for the rest of your bleeding heart (no pun intended) drivel, whatever 230;
