Jerusalem – A singer who performed in front of a “mixed audience” of men and women was lashed 39 times to make him “repent,” after a ruling by a self-described rabbinic court on Wednesday.

Rabbi Amnon Yitzhak, founder of the Shofar organization aimed at bringing Jews “back to religion” (hazara betshuva), has made it his recent mission to fight against musical performances for both men and women.
His “judicial panel,” with Rabbi Ben Zion Mutsafi and another member, sentenced Erez Yechiel to 39 lashes in order to “rid him of his sins.”
In a video clip of the court posted on the Shofar Web site, Ben Zion said that those who make others sin (mahtiei rabim), such as artists who make men and women attend performances or dance together, have no place in the world to come.
He displayed a leather strip he said was made by his father from ass and bull skin, with which Yechiel was to have been whipped.
Yechiel, who said, “I accept upon myself the lashing for my sins,” was ordered to stand by a wooden poll with his head facing north (“from whence the evil inclination comes”), his hands tied with a azure-colored rope (“a symbol of mercy”), and served his “sentence.”

It’s an old minhag
Never heard in todays days about ‘malkas’, since the singer himself came to the panel to ask them for a teshuva so it makes sense, otherwise would be very weird..
The Taliban is alive and well in Israel. No Beit Din has that type of authority today. Rabbi Yutzchak has done some amazing things, but he and his Bais Din should be arrested for assault.
Nice circus, would have been a nice presentation at a concert. Did the beis din see how the sins are flying away after the lashes?
Incidentaly,
What’s wrong with concerts??
Jewish concerts have been going on since the time of the first beis hamikdash.
Remenber the Story of King Achav and Navos. The midrash relates that Navos was a great singer and he would perform in front of the people who were ‘Ole Regel’ in the Har Habayis /beis Hamikdash because he had a beautiful voice. One year he decided not to go (unknown reason), so his fate was seen as punishment for his NOT wanting to go.
If that is not a jewish concert I don’t know what is…
is slavery next
Soon they will initiate stonings hangings Etc.
singing in front of men and woman malkas
million dollar fraud child molestation nothing happens weird
the retards are at it again most probably this is all a hoax he wont be hit hard just little spanking theese mindless morons act like 2 year olds want attention all the time
It also looks like it’s the first time for these people.
Is that a cell phone at 5:58 ?
Who were the aidim, did they give hasra’a?
Their priorities are so screwed up! child molesters and fraudsters get protected but someone giving a kosher Jewish concert with the audience being willing participants gets lashes. Please tell me how this is not screwed up!
Very emotional. I have but two questions.
1) Although Erez Yechiel came to this Bais Din by himself looking for a Thsuva, it still is a serious matter. Why make a play out of it? What are cameras and video cameras doing there?
2) I happen to be an admirer of Harav Amnon Yitzchok. I listen to him, see his clips, and go to see him when I have an oppertunity. The question is, when is the Rav Amnon going to have non mixed audiences at his own lectures?

It might behoove you to open a Choshen Mishpat and look at the second siman rather bragging of your ignorance of all things Jewish.
Malkis is given for being over on a laav. which laav are you over if you sing?

If had bothered to open a chumash you would notice that by aliyah liregel it says “kol zichurchah, all males. Aliyah liregel was not a family picnic. It was a serious religious service performed by males.
Promotion for both Erez Yechiel (a great singer BTW) and Rav Amnon. Rav Amnon does do great things but sometimes his penchant for using shock methods gets way out of hand.
Lipa getting his tuches’l whipped on stage would be some act for his next concert!!
AlbertEinstein,
“Who were the aidim, did they give hasra’a?”
Another genius that learned a few dapim when he was in Yeshivah and never opened a Shulchan Aruch. See my reply to #4 .
this is a publicity stunt, the lashes were given as lite taps!!
this whole episode was purely symbolic as can be seen 5:25 min of the video .in the reflection in the glass of the bookcase. you see him being “hit” by barely tapping on his back. but wait till you read this story in “the ny times” and see how they will make us look.
burkas and stoning are not far behind but did i reaqd right this group is trying to spread yiddishkiet and bring people back if so they are doing a great job whats next surgically severing a mans spine because of an accident
Amnon Yitzchok is yesterdays news, he has lots of competition these days from the Batzri’s & Pintos, so he is yearning for some attention and recognition.
#9 wrong they want to stone the parents that want them punished for their CRIMES
actually hitting with a belt as a form of repentence is done by moslems during ramadan when they self inflict wounds on themselves as a form of repentence

This man asked for it! he wanted it! and look in the reflection and tell me if you really didnt realize that it was more monumental than painful, in the reflection you can see him giving the malkus, and doesnt pick up the stick more than 4 inches, which is the reason this man did not moan even once. sooo sitting in our sofas doesn 217;t make us aware of the facts.
#7 and #8
Typical jew bashers, nothing happened in this story and nobody is talking about a spine for a spine (read recent news in saudi arabia).

You really blew it! a little spanking = idiots? this man did ask for it! you hear it in the proclamation and this rabbi is much bigger and gets much more attention than you will get in a lifetime of even full time 24 hrs bashing them. they dont need this for attention, however you do. and you would get a drop more attention by all other jew bashers here on vin which entitles you RIGHTFULLY as a moron.
Its a sephardi minhag this time of year to give malkos, I rememberr as a child my motherr doing it to my father . Tou people out there are just so smart “NOT”
This is perversion.
What a JOKE…My rebbe in cheder gave me much bigger Makes (maybe not 39) but defenite much more painful ones. And some took my pants off and hit me on my bare behind till i finally understood the Gemureh he teached us..
I believe R’Amnon Yitzchok may be Mashiach, He accomplishes more in one day than most of yourr readers do in a lifetime
“Find one rabbi that permits singing at a mixed performance.”
Rav Soloveitchik z’tz’l and Rav Hutner z’tz’l attended the opera together in Berlin.
Minhag yerushalyim is to give and receive symbolic malkos on erev Tom kippur, this minhag is mentioned in shulchan oruch hilchos erev yom kippur and can be seen in the zichron moshe shteiblach.
Look at the faces of the bucherim at the concert. They are shining with the spirit of simcha and ruchniyus. Take away these concerts and they might seek an outlet elsewhere-goyishe outlets. Is that a better idea? stupid, stupid, stupid.
I just lost all respect for Amnan Yitzchok! How hypercritical! I have never seen anyone play more to the camera then Amron Yitzchok as well as in mixed audiences. What a total distortion! I never heard of this singer but who is to say that his method of Kiruv through music is any less valuable than Amnan Yitzchok. I’m DISGUSTED!
Still funny and weird, but;
1. This singer came to the Rabbis to give him a tikkun teshuva, they didn’t call him to ‘punish’ him, so it was his choice.
2. The ‘Malkes’ didn’t really hurt him, they were very soft whips, just the vidui and teshuva were the main, plus the ‘zecher lemalkus’.
Was his concert mixed seating? It didn’t look like it was on the video.

And do you have a clue what rav hutner said about it in his later years, he openly admitted that he was far from elokus at that time. By the way if I recall the rebbeh was there as well, but kayaduah he was to holy to grasp what was going on lol.
He takes one chilul hashem and perpetuates an even bigger one in which the rabbonim themselves are complicit. He clearly derives some sado masochistic pleasure from the lashing and the associated publicity and they just played into his hands. I’m willing to be that we will soon see his “Makos Set to Music” video and CDs being marketed all over the internet. Don’t these rabbonim understand what pritzus they have been a party to??
Charlie:
What evidence do you have of these aspersions you are casting against Gedolim?
Serves him right. It is Elul these people should be learning Torah and doing tshuvah. These concerts only lead to no good.
To 38: What nonsense… do you just make this stuff up? Pure Sheker… to his last years Rav Hutner was even Mattir listening to classical music during Sifira. Throughout the ages it has always been a convenient strategy to lie and say people were Chozer on their death bed… hey they say it about Rambam too so why not.

I’m not sure he is defintely Moishicach, but I agree that based on his acomplishments there certainly is a much higher probability of it being true than some others rumored here frequently to be moishiach.
Just lost all respect for A Y they should all be locked up.
I personnaly love this video.
It shows the beauty in the diversity, and distinct Minhagim each and every part of Judaism expresses.
The Sefardim and their Minhagim like Heter Kelalos, Malkos, Tikun Kures, Tanis Dibur, and much more, is what shows the beauty in Am Yisroel.
I view these Minhagim as a symbolic act to remind ourselves to do Teshuva, and a resemblence to the severity of transgressing the laws of the Torah.
Wish i would get these Malkos!!!

Although Aliya Le Regel is an OBLIGATION (Chiyuv) for men, women also were present. and often went as well.
If people brought Korban Pesach their wives also had an obligation to eat it, in Yerushalaim!! Women also would go up for Succos because there is a seperate Mitzva of Simcha and Chagiga which involve Korbanos of Which women also had to partake. In addition, on Succos you have the Simchas Beis HaShoeva, and women did attend as is evident from the Mishnayos in Succah and Chagiga.
Furthermore, every seven years you also have the mitzva of Hakhel were women also came up to listen to the King read the Torah.
Ben Zion said that those who make others sin (mahtiei rabim), such as artists who make men and women attend performances or dance together, have no place in the world to come.”
This little quote should be sent to all the gals who think and say “it’s none of your business how I dress:” They make silly comments like “why do they look?” or “the women in Manhattan dress just as bad or worse so they see it there anyway” or “too bad their wives are fat and sloppy, that’s why they look” etc etc.
Shame on these ignorant ladies! The reason we have halachas regarding tznius is exactly because a man is created to notice. He is simply “wired” that way. The role of a tznua is to dress in a way that does not cause him unnecessary difficulty. It’s like putting ice cream in front of an ice cream lover who is trying desperately to lose weight.
These gals don’t realize that are merely a “shtik fleish” that they are uncovering thus causing a normal healthy man to look. (this goes for extremely tight clothes too) The lookers are not “in love” with these women. They are not even thinking about them as “people” they are merely looking like a dog in the street chases after another dog

What accomplishments did Amnon Yitzchak do to even contemplate his being Moshiach.
He is Not a Melech..
He is not even a Nassi
Nor has he waged any Milchemes Mitzva
Nor has he established a religious state.
Where are you getting your Moshiach requirements…certainly not the RambaM!!
What accomplishments are you measuring and who are you to measure?
Based on this beis din, we’re going to have to assur the singing that goes on at all chassunahs now. Those are clearly mixed audiences. No more singing by the chuppah either. Now – for the record – where in the TORAH do we see that men cannot sing before a mixed audience?
To LeftBrooklyn #42 : Perhaps if you spent more time going to concerts you would spend less time on the internet… a much greater danger.
Perhaps he enjoys being whipped, and they enjoy whipping him.
Was the concert wrong? YES! Absolutely, mixed concerts are prohibited and usually bring to no good.
See gemora Sukah (peirik 5) about simchas beis hasoavah.
#6 , concerts never took place by real frum yidden, only by lo grade and am ha’aratzim, and mixed concerts never took place by observant yidden, the maskilim reformers, etc. Used to organize mixed events to be coteh umachtie es horabim.
