NYPD motorcades for dignitaries at the upcoming UN General Assembly won’t include motorcycle cops, sources said yesterday.
This follows last month’s accident in Queens in which two motorcycle cops suffered minor injuries as part of Vice President Joe Biden’s motorcade, and an accident in November in Hell’s Kitchen that left two other motorcycle cops injured, also while escorting Biden.
President Obama’s motorcade will be the only one to include NYPD motorcycles when he attends the session.
The motorcycle escort is for show only. It doesn’t add an iota of additional security to the motorcade, and in fact is a hindrance, vis-a-vis accidents.
