Uman, Ukraine – Authorities have deported to Israel ten Hasidic pilgrims, who attempted to disrupt public order in Uman, Cherkasy region, and who were suspected of causing bodily harm to local residents.

The pilgrims have been banned from Ukraine for five years, the media liaisons department of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry’s main office in Cherkasy region reported.
The deputy head of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry’s main office in Cherkasy region, Ivan Korsun, said that pre-investigation checks were being conducted with respect to three more Hasidic pilgrims.
Korsun also noted that two conflicts had erupted during the Hasidic pilgrims’ visits to Uman. One of the injured residents is already at home, while the other is still in hospital.
Clashes between the residents of Uman and the pilgrims broke out on September 10. In particular, a conflict erupted near a local children’s hospital between activists of the first Jewish Evangelical Church, who arrived from Odesa to preach their faith and the Hasidim. The activists of the Jewish Evangelical Church distributed leaflets and T-shirts with the slogans of the unity of the Jews in a common faith, and they said they were not planning to create a conflict situation. The Hasidic pilgrims objected to the rally, and a conflict broke out. The participants of the rally were obliged to return to Odesa.
The second case was connected with a reaction to a remark by a woman from Uman, who had leased her apartment to the Hasidim for the period of the pilgrimage, but due to noise said she would call the police. A man from the neighboring apartment came out and phoned the police.
“The Hasidim… started beating the man, chasing him onto the street. A passer-by came to his defense and suffered several blows,” the department said.
The two injured men were hospitalized in a local city hospital.
Every autumn, Hasidic pilgrims travel to Uman to visit the gravesite of their spiritual leader Rabbi Nachman and celebrate Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.
According to the police, around 24,000 Hasidic pilgrims from 23 countries arrived in Uman this year
Hashem Yirachem. Some 18,000 leave Eretz Yisroel to go mifarnes goyim who want to slice our throats. I don’t understand.
They should have behaved like Uman beings; then this would not have happened.
How are Home Depot and Uman related?
If you’re missing a screw, that’s where you’ll go.
what ever the number is does not matter. the fact that at this happening people still do not know how to behave is a problem every secular paper covered this and we screw up sorry something is wrong here but is this any different then the way we behave in the mountains, we are in other peoples homes their towns and we cause problems, when they complain ,we call them anti semites and jew haters maybo just maybe we are our own worst enemy
Dovid – it is called avodah zara. Ok, maybe I am being harsh but at the very minimum it is a chillul hashem.
in the age of the media where they decide what takes center stage
in truth there was 40,000 people and this is the only thing they report its a shame
imagine talking about a few hoodlums at woodstock and mentioning music as a afterthought
which is what the article did this is a shame and a shame on any site that helps promote this type of journalism
I am sure that the Chilul HaShem some cause outways any possible Zechus in this trip.
There are alot of weird people going to Uman for Rosh Hashana. Although everyone is entitled to their tikkun by the tsaddik, the actual percentage of regular Breslover chassidim is far below the 24,000 number. I would say less than 10,000 are real Breslovers. And they don’t include wild people which include the wackos who call themselves Na Nach as they desecrate the name of Hashem and the Tzaddik.
#1 – your repulsive bigotry, and the fact that the point of the article eluded you completely, are duly noted. For the record, the chilul Hashem here is the behavior of people who seem more interested in reinforcing anti-Semitic stereotypes than in whatever the ostensible purpose of this journey might be.
They should move his kever to Eretz Yisroel.
Why would Reb Nachman want to remain in golus, made into something almost like an avoda zarah while thousands come every year, supporting the local economy of an obviously anti-semitic people. Instead of sponsoring this event, people should sponsor the relocation of his kever to Eretz Yisroel.
Hi…..why not sell a list of ALL of these guys who have so much money…a great fundraiser list ! I n these tough economic times it is impoosible to comprehend why they do this.
These people can stay home!!
To #3…I agree that the majority of people going to Uman do NOT belong there but you can NOT say that on a few thousand erliche people who go to daven on such a holy place..”Chachumim Hizhari Meedoyreichem”
# 6 “imagine talking about a few hoodlums at woodstock and mentioning music as a afterthought”
Yes, right you are! There was some background music at that pharmacological event, was’t there?
Verry funny, if it wouldnt be so sad, id laugh!
these people are repulsive. like it says above: thousands leave the Holy Land to travel to a place my grandparents just barely escaped due to horrifying Jew hatred. now these nut cases give the locals real reasons to hate the Jews. mazel tov, i am sure that Nachman would be so proud of his hasidim.
a shanda for the goyim.
#10 –
My thoughts exactly. If it was good enough for Yosef Avinu, then it should be good enough for Rabbi Nachman.
Poster # 4 (Kollelfaker); Introspection is very good. But there is a mentality ( Among some Jews) where we are always wrong. No matter what. That’s the “Chillul Hashem” mentality, where, anything we do is a ch”h. and we always justify any wrong done to us. Saying we deserve such treatment due to our own shortcomings. Specifically. About our so called misbehavior in the mountains. The local residents (for the most part.) want us to come up and spend our money there. As a matter of fact, they call the Two Summer months “The Season”. But they can’t stand us. They act as if we come onto their own living room uninvited. They’d prefer we send our Dollars and stay home.
Great Picture 🙂
the article neglects to mention the state-sponsored corruption in Uman. Some (most) landlords take advantage of the pilgrims, charge more than agreed upon, etc.
a job well done.
To #17 : In all seriousness, Tuvia, Yosef wanted to be brought back to EY, R’ Nachman apparently wanted to be buried right there in Uman. I am not a follower and am not likely to ever find myself in Uman, but I can’t see it being my business to tell the followers what to do with the kever. Besides, who is to say the Ukrainian government will allow the move?
Its a shame nobody has anything nice to say here. I was there and it was one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. Tikkun killuli by Rebbe Nachmans kever on Erev Rosh Hoshana was worth the trek from Colorado. The Gedolim and lectures were amazing and a life changer. To see the Ahavas Yisroel between the chasidim and the Israelis makes you believe Moshiach is actually closer then u think. I do agree there were a lot of chillul hashems made and its disguisting how the Ukrainians and the Israelis act towards eachother but that is some of the hardship to be in such an amazing place for Rosh Hoshana.
30,000 people squeezed into 3 block radius, hostile locals, the emotional upheavel of tsuvah( some for the first time tasting Yiddishkeit)
To see all those tatoos on people on the Mikva
2 incidents, come on? These aren’t yeshivaleit. Boruch Hashem for such an experience.
The promise still stands
whoever comes and gives a prutah( coin) to tzadaka and recites the ten specific chapters of Tehiilim, the Tzadid will cross the length and breadth of the universe to pull you from Gehinnom. A promise with two witnesses
good gemar
“chilulei hashem”
I’m just sayin’….
some of my best friends go to Uman
# 3 chaddishe tziyoni love your comment! keep up the good work.
I was there and no I am not a Chassid. I hate labels, but if you had to label me you can call me an American Charedi living in Eretz Yisroel. The people that don’t go to Uman who say they “Don’t Understand”. That’s right, you don’t understand. In fact no one can really understand unless you experience it for yourself. This was my second year in a row going and I am planning to go next year again if Chas V’Shalom Moshiach has not yet arrived.
There were at least 10 huge highlights that if just one of them happened it would have been worth the trip, but the biggest highlight for me was after I said Tikkun Klali by the Tzion on second day Yom Tov in the afternoon.
I sat down by the main Kikar for about 10 minutes and just looked around with a huge smile on my face. In one area I saw a Rav with 10 Chassidim around him talking in Torah. In another area I saw two friends in their 60’s sitting together and laughing. I saw children playing behind me. And I saw thousands of people of every type of Jew walking through the streets with smiles on their faces. The achdus between Yidden was palable as I greated every Yid I met with a Shana Tova and everyone replied with a huge
a huge smile on their face and a Shana Tova back usually with mroe words of Bracha. Their were heavy duty Satmar Chassidim there, there were Dati Leumi, Chabad, American Charedim, Breslov Chasidim of every age, Israelis, Baalei Teshuvah, every type of Yarmulka or head covering known to man. People saying tehillim in the streets, dancing, singing everywhere! There is no doubt in my mind that this was a real taste of the Geula. There is NO PLACE in the world besides Uman Rosh HaShana where the Achudus between Yidden.
The fact is if the type of Achdus that is shown in Uman took place in Eretz Yisroel then Moshiach would come on that day. It is a shame that a couple of stories that impress the Press is what people talk about and not the tremendous amount of chesed and Achdus that is done.
The participants of the rally were obliged to return to Odesa.
Hahahahahahahaha
To #’s 10 and 17..no negative comments on my part….just a question…does Jewish law allow for the relocation of a gravesite?
