There was one less hurdle in 2006, when DuBois, now an incumbent, dispatched a Republican rival in a primary and then coasted to re-election with no Democratic opponent.
This time around, there is no competition. As tight races for governor, Congress and other offices crowd the Nov. 2 ballot, DuBois will sail quietly to a third term as sheriff without a challenge from anyone, Republican or Democrat.
