King said his bill would make it illegal to knowingly carry a gun within a thousand feet of “certain high-profile” government officials.
King appeared at a Manhattan event Tuesday with Mayor Michael Bloomberg and other officials from New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. They were discussing ways to keep guns out of the hands of criminals.
King, a Long Island Republican, chairs the House Homeland Security Committee. His announcement comes after the mass shooting in Arizona on Saturday that killed six people and wounded 14 others, including Democratic Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
Lovely. The new legislation would keep guns (as much as any law can) from 1,000 feet from a Congressman or judge. Hey, if it’s about keeping people safe, how about 1,000 feet from nine year old girls?
Or is it only politicians who count?
So if you are a wacko looking to kill a “high profile” government official you have the comfort of knowing that only the security guards have the potential to stop you.
Exit question for King: Why do you want to make high profile government officials easier targets?
Unbelievble! Every day it gets stupider!
You got a city violating your federal rights, the federal government violating your state rights.
If you want to be elected to congress, learn to shoot.
…Why not just make it illegal to shoot at a public official–or at a little girl?
if one civilian had a firearm he could have possibly stopped the carnage
Banish guns – make tougher laws on legal guns and much tougher laws on illegal guns
Has this idiot never heard of the equal protection clause?
