Logan was in the city’s Tahrir Square on Friday after Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down when she, her team and their security “were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration,” CBS said in a statement Tuesday.

The network described a mob of more than 200 people “whipped into a frenzy.”

Separated from her crew in the crush of the violent pack, she suffered what CBS called “a brutal and sustained assault and beating.” She was saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers, the network said.

She reconnected with the CBS team and returned to the U.S. on Saturday.

A network source told The NY Post that her attackers were screaming, “Jew! Jew!” during the assault. And the day before, Logan had told Esquire.com that Egyptian soldiers hassling her and her crew had accused them of “being Israeli spies.” Logan is not Jewish.

The scene last Friday in Tahrir Square — ground zero of 18 days of protests that brought down Mubarak — was primarily one of celebration — people wept, jumped for joy, cheered and hugged one another. Some soldiers stationed at the square ran into the crowd, and the protesters lifted them onto their shoulders. Other troops stayed at their posts, watching in awe. There were fireworks, the sound of car horns and even some shots fired in the air.

The attack on Logan, CBS News’ chief foreign affairs correspondent, was one of at least 140 others suffered by reporters covering the unrest in Egypt since Jan. 30, according to the Committee to Protect Journalists. An Egyptian reporter died from gunshot wounds he received during the protests.

A week before Friday’s attack, Logan was detained by the Egyptian military for a day, along with a CBS producer and cameraman. They returned to the U.S. after their release, and Logan went back to Cairo shortly before Mubarak left.

Logan joined CBS News in 2002. She regularly reports for the “CBS Evening News” as well as “60 Minutes,” where she has been a correspondent since 2006. She has reported widely from Iraq and Afghanistan, and other global trouble spots.

CBS said it had no further comment on Logan’s assault.

If the networks and news services were really concerned about the well being of their reporters, they would get them the heck out of there ASAP. Amazing..always the “Jewish” angle when the arabs become frustrated. As said before..with friends like this who needs enemies. If appears to me that some people really don’t deserve freedom and it takes a Mubarak or Saddam Hussein to keep them in line. I’m sure that this comment may not sit well with some but the mentality of the Mid-East is always violence and blame the Jews.

Amazing how despite this horrible tragedy CBS has to remain all politically correct and state that her attack was by “a dangerous element amidst the celebration” – meaning, the Egyptians are all loving and peaceful and this was just a fluke.

The term ‘useful idiots’ comes to mind when discussing the media. I wish the reporter a speedy recovery but you can bet the rent, she along with her friends in the media will continue to shill for the Arab world.

Its called the Stockholm Syndrome..When it comes to Jews the entire world including those who ought to know better, falls at the feet of the very ones who in time will do them ill as well..

Hitler, Stalin, Nasser, Assad, Arafat, Need a Dinner Jacket and others of that ilk come to mind. All of these Killers. YMS were at one time or other admired by the ‘maven’ of the newsworld..The NEW YORK TIMES.

Arabs, Muslims, with or without dictators will remain murderers, killers. They need a dictator over them. They can not live like civilized people because they are not a civilized nation. Bring back Sadam Hussien to kill a few billion of them, that is the only language they understand. Doesnt Hussein Obama get it?

Democratic revolution or not, xenophobia, paranoia, antisemitism and paganism has not gone away. What God loving and God fearing people can conduct their day in such a capacity. Where is the God loving voice of Islam to guide these people? Or whatever other leadership they may have?

Both the Iraqi and Egyptian people would have been better off with Saddam Hussein and Hosni Mubarak respectively. Yes, also the US and the rest of the world.

The mob who attacked Lara Logan, was nothing but a pack of savages, from the jungle. Women are routinely sexually harassed in Cairo; in this case, the mob beat and raped Lara Logan. Katie Kouric reported the latter, last evening. In his nearly 30 years in office, Mubarek did nothing to address the problem of sexual harassment of women; also, he did nothing to counteract the hostility towards Jews, among his people. For example, the Egyptian press which is controlled by the Government, routinely prints anti-semitic stories. Therefore, what was so special about Mubarek? All Mubarek did, was help himself financially, to governmental kickbacks. I hope that the new Egyptian government eventually holds him accountable.

what happened to Lara Logan (lehavdil) reminds me of the story about how careful Avrohom had to be to hide Sara imeinu when going down to mitzrayim…
It seems Yishmoel is still “pere Adam”
I don’t particularly care for Lara Logan’s questionable personal history, but she didn’t deserve what she got…
