“I almost never take the bus anymore because they are way too slow here in the city,” Mark Malkoff says in a video posted online.

Malkoff came up with a unique way of testing his theory: racing a bus across town in a child’s Big Wheel. Malkoff selected the mile-long stretch of 42nd street running from 10th Avenue to Madison Avenue.

The latest shtick of some MTA bus drivers is to completely by pass you and not even pick you up at the bus stop if they can get away with it. Seems to be a new game with them.

Buses have to take fares and allow passengers to get on and off. THe slower they go, the more passengers at each stop so its a never ending cycle. NYC should bring back a free bus or tram crosstown at 14, 34, 42 and 57 street. Hop on and off. The sides would be open almost all the way along one side of the bus so you just hop on anywhere and hop off anywhere, not only at the front and rear doors. A row of seats along the left side of the bus , away from the wide open side facing the curb.Bus lane along the curb only for buses. More important than the bike lanes causing such controversy. Guranteed this will cut the time to go crosstown at least in half and likely by 2/3.
Other option, a moving sidewalk with 3 speeds. 3 mph when you get on, 7 mph, next lane and 12 mph third lane. THis is more futuristic and can happen in 50 years. Buses can happen tomorrow.

Someone racing a City Bus in a Bigwheeel, and winning. Wow. It says a lot about the conditions of traffic in Manhattan. But, in Brooklyn, the situation is not much better. People are waiting at Bus stops for an Hour or more. And then, Four (or more.) buses arrive. That’s called “Bunching”. The MTA hasn’t found a cure for this problem in all these years.

The only conclusion we can form here is that the Big Apple is a crowded city and metro transit will have to deal with traffic, people and social congestion. It’s not the fault of anyone. If you want to overstep it all, take a hitch on the back of Spiderman
