Starting today, the code is being assigned to new phone numbers in Queens, Brooklyn, the Bronx and Staten Island.
The new code will compliment the existing 718 and 347 numbers, which will not change.
The rapid growth in cell phone use created a shortage in available phone numbers, leading to the creation of 929.
It’s estimated that the 718 and 347 phone numbers will be exhausted by next year.
The new 929 area code will be used for both landlines and cell phones.
They should never have given away 718 #’s for Cells
the need for a new area code proves that new york city is growing and the census numbers are wrong.
