Washington – The White House released the long form of President Barack Obama’s birth certificate Wednesday in response to questions about whether he was really born in the U.S.

The certificate says Obama was born in Hawaii, which makes him eligible to hold the office of president. Obama released a standard short form before he was elected in 2008, but requested copies of his original birth certificate from Hawaii officials this week in hopes of quieting the lingering controversy.
White House spokesman Jay Carney says Obama felt the debate over his birthplace had become a “sideshow” that was bad for the country and political debate.
White House officials have said the issue was settled long ago. But so-called “birthers” opposed to Obama have kept the issue alive. Potential Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump recently began questioning why Obama hadn’t ensured the long form was released.
“The president feels this was bad for the country, that it’s not healthy for our political debate,” Carney said in releasing copies of the long form to reporters.
The certificate is signed by the delivery doctor, Obama’s mother and the local registrar. His mother, then 18, signed her name (Stanley) Ann Dunham Obama.
The form says Barack Hussein Obama II was born at 7:24 p.m. on Aug. 4, 1961, at Kapiolani Maternity and Gynecological Hospital, within the city limits of Honolulu.
There’s no mention of religion. It says his father Barack Hussein Obama, age 25, was African and born in Kenya and his mother was Caucasian and born in Wichita, Kan. Obama’s mother and the doctor signed the certificate on Aug. 7 and 8.
Hawaii’s registrar certified the new photocopy of the document provided to the White House on April 25, 2011.
The White House also released a letter from the president on April 22 requesting two certified copies of his original certificate of live birth, as well as a letter from Loretta Fuddy, Hawaii’s director of health, approving the request.
The president’s personal counsel, Judith Corley, traveled to Hawaii to pick up the documents and carried them back to Washington on a plane. The documents arrived at the White House around 5pm Tuesday.
Upon landing in New Hampshire, Trump took credit for getting Obama to release his birth certificate.
“He should have done it a long time ago. I am really honored to play such a big role in hopefully, hopefully getting rid of this issue,” he said.
While White House officials avoided mentioning Trump by name, they said they released the birth certificate partially because the issue had moved from a fringe discussion and into the mainstream media.
When Republicans and Democrats were talking to media, they were asked about it, White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer said. “It was a constant discussion on main stream news organizations.”
Finally!! While I’m not a fan of his at all (to say the least), I kept on telling everybody that wanted to listen that IMHO he’s definitely a natural born citizen, now we have to look for a competent conservative to take over the current American president….
I’m sure there will be some right wing nutcases who will post “its a forgery” or that its not the “real” birth certificate. They can join the lunatic fringe of the tea party and Trump in banging that drum to eternity and further marginalizing themselves. I’ve been surprised to hear really smart conservatives like Gov. Christie of NJ and Mcdonald of Virginia, along with Cong. Cantor and Bachman say they believe Obama was born here and the “birther” issue is a NON-ISSUE.

Although I do not think that where this guy was born is any big issue at this point, after all the real damage he has done to this once great country, for anyone who cares, this is NOT a Birth Certificate. A Birth Certificate must be signed by the doctor delivering the baby. This is a “Certificate of Live Birth” which can be obtained very easily whether you qwere born in the state or not. Why don’t you Obama Groupies check your facts before fawning all over this guy.
The Jewish Republican former governor of Hawaii had said that she had seen the original records and that they matched what was on the computer-generated certificate that had been released almost three years ago. Why didn’t the right wingers believe her?
At this point, Trump and the other teaparty and “birther” nutcases are certifiably committable if they continue down this path, and most of us would support having the government take such action and get them the mental health care they need, if they raise this issue again.

The wingnut birfers have imagined that there is some “Holy Grail” of documents that the President is hiding away. But even if the President displays every official document, they won’t be satisfied, and will demand his college transcripts, the original handwritten manuscript of “Dreams of My Father” and proof of his bris milah.

This issue will not go away until he shows the original and not a “true copy” of his birth certificate. Can’t help but wonder why this is so difficult for the man who campaigned on a platform of openness and full disclosure. I also wince at the condescending manner in which he spoke to the American people this morning.
Trump is wrong. This was not an issue. It was a contention. Obama did the organized thing and let it sweat a little bit in the media and presses which only goes to show how dumbfounded the egos of the opposition can be in times of national priority. So best wishes BHO, you’re in the clear today clearly and now lets see if there is any other nonsense that the Far Right can toss into the political fray to make more of a fuss about your true and sincere diligence and competance in office. Here is my question. What’s the purpose of the White House to ‘play’ the public opinion? They know it is NOT a birth certificate and they also know that every concerned party knows that as well.
So why to label it a ‘Birth Certificate’? They know this is not one.
So far only two explanations do I find plausible:
A) They are clever. If we assume there is strategy involved this means that B.H.O. has the Birth Certificate and he want’s everyone screaming for it to get into an even more extreme position when discussing the current document release. Then, at a later point they can ridicule them by releasing the actual Birth Certificate and derailing the doubters.
B) They are just doing the best they can. Politicians, as they are, would never shy away from a lie and as we experienced in his short three years of tenancy, B.H.O. is one of the most notorious type of liars. But at least he does that out of conviction, bending reality to what he needs to be true.
Knowing he has a bunch of Jewish advisors, I guess it’s really A). Which is good, at least it tests out the intelligence of challengers, including Donald Trump. He was so far a pleasant surprise, even though it’s a said day in the US if he is the best challenger.

Maybe I have read too many books, but I think the birther issue is a smokescreen. For the anti-Obama crew, it’s something to push around to challenge the legitimacy of his candidacy and presidency. For the Obama crowd, it’s the decoy to keep people busy with this (which they new was a non-issue) while managing to keep a whole lot of other stuff from becoming public. The reality is that we have installed as president the most inept, inexperienced, and poorest in morality for any president in the past century. With predecessors like Clinton and Carter, that’s a big statement. Some liberal Democrats will get heartburn from hearing that. Tough. I choose to be blind to race, color, and even the birthing stuff. I just want our country to be led by someone who is capable. I have yet to find a single issue in which Obama convinces me he is fit for the job. I’m terribly sorry, I forgot that he held a “seder” in the White House for the third time. I guess that makes him competent in domestic and foreign affairs.
To the RW fringe: he didn’t spend millions on this issue. That is a distortion spread by media pundits. They totalled his ENTIRE legal bill for the 2008 campaign and labelled it as legal costs for birther issues. It’s simply not true.

If I was born in the USA but raised in Britian, am I American or British? I am British. My thinking is British, my entire way of life is British and my goal would be to turn the USA into Britian. Not surprisingly, he ran on a platform of change. He is the enemy and living in the White House!

They did that with a time machine that Spock MaCoy and Captain Kirk encountered on Stardate 3134.0:. I know this machine is real since I saw it on Star Trek The City on the Edge of Forever.
If two yiddin during the 1960’s (spock and Kirk) could travel back in time why not the birthers of today?

In my community, there was a ‘rov’ who it later turned out forged his semicha document and tore ‘his semicha’ to shreds once he was summoned to a beis din to analyze his supposed semicha. If a Torah abiding jew, ‘a rov’, can falsify documents for career purposes, why would I put it past Obama?
I’d be interested to see how this plays out because I’m sure the so called birthers will scrutinize his released certificate for any potential forgery.

FYI, contrary to Mz. Palin’s statement that Obama spent millions to keep the long form certificate from release, he did not spend a dime. All he had to do is refuse to sign off on the application form requesting a copy.
I have here a copy of my own birth certifficate. It says “Certificate of Live Birth” too. Hmmm. Sounds like I have to have a talk with my mother!
Trump is now turning his attention to rumors that Obama never graduated law school and his grades were faked. Thank you hashem…..the Donald is the “gift that keeps on giving” (to the Dems…). It’s just like Ina said (#14) above — no amount of documentation or testimony (because remember this WAS thrown out of court a couple times) will satisfy the wingnut birther movement. He releases a short form, they want to see the long form. He releases the long form, then they question its authenticity and cry ‘forgery’. Nothing will satisfy these people.
However, I can not believe that there is absolutely NO racism at play here. No other president, no other politician has been put through this level of scrutiny ever. No one asked to see Sarah Palin’s birth certificate, John McCain’s, etc. Not to mention party lines — Democrats weren’t clamoring for Bobby Jindal’s birth certificate in Louisiana. IMO the Tea Partiers and birthers are going to keep doing this for every candidate whose last name sounds foreign — just wait until we have a viable candidate whose last name ends in “-ez”, these people will subpoena every Latin American embassy until Moshiach comes…
Someone famous (Oops, don’t remember who) stated that the downside of making a bigger issue out of a small one is that it trivializes major issues. I’m sorry, but I think the birther stuff is stupid at this point in time. The reason Obama should not be president is that he is incompetent and implements damaging policies. Case closed. Hopefully, our population will not be so distracted in 2012.
Let’s just assume that he is person born in the USA and that everything done to disprove his right to be our President was in wrong. What hasn’t changed is his lack of leadership and his pandering to both the black and Muslim communities. I think he has some serious health issues….he must have very bad hearing and issues with his vision. How can a man who sat in a church where the pastor, the Rev Wright spewed out anti white, anti semetic and anti American hate, see and hear nothing. He must have heard something because the arrogance of the Rev. Wright has carried over to Obama. A man who can break bread and seek the friendship and support of the likes of Al Sharpton should not be the President of The United States. The man is shameless. He is bad for America, he is bad for Israel and hopefully the Republican Party will come up with a viable candidate to defeat him.
