Washington – Sen. Charles Schumer says he’ll hold a Senate committee hearing in Washington to push federal officials on security initiatives the New York Democrat is seeking for the nation’s northern border.

Schumer says Tuesday he’ll be chairman of the May 17 hearing in Washington before the Subcommittee on Immigration, Refugees and Border Security.
He says top officials from the Department of Homeland Security will give updates on border security initiatives sought by Schumer and other lawmakers from northern border states. The proposals include using military-grade radar to combat drug trafficking along the northern border.
In March, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano told Schumer at an oversight hearing in Washington that her department is working with the military on radar and other technologies for the border and that things were moving rapidly.
There is a huge problem with this, and Schumer is as guilty as many others are. At the risk of exaggerating, our borders will be open to terrorists and illegals, but closed to others. Somehow, we extend constitutional rights to those least entitled to them. Watch the screenings in airports. It is commonplace to require additional examination of anyone unlikely to be doing anything questionable, but the Muslim regalia is carte blanche.
