Washington – Schumer Blasts Anti-Terror Funding Cuts

Washington – Senator Charles Schumer is joining a chorus of critics slamming the federal government for proposed cuts to anti-terror funding.

Schumer says the Homeland Security budget proposal in the House would result in an estimated loss of $186 million for the city, a nearly 46 percent decrease over last year.

In a statement, Schumer calls the budget a “blind rush to slash every piece of the federal budget.”

He goes on to say the size of the cuts will hamper New York’s ability to prevent and respond to a terror attack. This, in the wake of the death of Osama bin Laden and the foiling of a homegrown plot on city synagogues.

The funding is used for planning, equipment and training exercises.
