Lucerne, Switzerland – An urgent cry for Tehillim has gone out worldwide for the oldest Rosh Yeshiva of our generation, 106 year old Rav Yitzchok Dov Koppelman of Luzerne. Surgery scheduled for this afternoon was canceled due to R’ Koppelman’s weakened condition.

R’ Koppelman was hospitalized last week after doctors discovered that he had both an intestinal blockage and water on his lungs. He is described as being “fully alert but in a weakened state and in need of divine mercy,” and people are requested to say Tehillim for R’ Yitzchak Dov ben Faiga.
Rosh Yeshiva of Lucerne for 63 years, R’ Koppelman is known for his phenomenal memory, remembering both the names and the academic achievements of thousands of talmidim who have learned in his yeshiva.
Despite his advanced age, he has continued to give shiurim and bechinos in the yeshiva in addition to serving as mashgiach. R’ Koppelman also traveled extensively on behalf of his talmidim and the yeshiva, having been in New York just two weeks ago and making the arduous trip to Australia earlier this year.
May Hashem send him a Refuah Shelaima!

His daughter Sara is as brilliant as he is. They are as sharp as tacks. What a bracha at his age, k”h, to be in control of one’s faculties and live the life of someone half his age. May Hakadosh Baruch Hu grant him a full and speedy recovery.

No words can describe the relationship that the Talmidim -both past and present – have with the Rosh Yeshiva! His personal interest in their lives; his advice to them; his lengthy ’shmusen’ when he addresses them; they cannot get enough of him.
He was just here for Pesach in NY, and as weak as he was, he had the time for all who sought him out. He gave a “shmus” on the last day of Pesach for one and a half hours at which his followers were literally hanging out the windows – the room was so packed.
Books can be written about the tales that his Talmidim tell of their times in Lucerne.
The Rosh Yeshiva has one of the most amazing attributes: he commands both awe and love from all those who know him.
My sons, who are ex-Talmidim don’t make a major move without consulting with him. They make a point of traveling to Lucerne for random Shabbosim and for Yom Kippur, just to be with this Zokon who has so affected their lives.
The matzav now is very, very grim. The Rosh Yeshiva needs great Rachmei Shomayim!!

He should have a Refuah Sh’laima. 106 years old and still sharp as a tack – now we have an idea of how Yosef Hatzaddik lived to be 110 and was vibrant until the end.
