Jeffries (D–Fort Greene) held a fundraiser on Sunday night, meeting with influential Hasidic leaders such as Rabbi David Niederman and Joseph Goldberger — both key Towns allies.
A source close to Jeffries would take on the 30-year veteran if he can raise enough money to be competitive.
Jeffries, 40, believes he’ll get the backing of controversial Democratic Party boss Assemblyman Vito Lopez (D–Williamsburg), who worked against his rival Towns’s recent bid for a district leader post.
I was at the meeting, I understood that Towns is not running anymore and that Town and Hakeem are very close friends. Does anyone know different?
Redistricting could change everyone’s plans.
Towns is a worn out politician. We need some new blood among the Dems in congress. Time to get a smart and articulate young guy in there to begin rebuilding the Democratic party in the House.
