New York, NY – The 18-year-old man accused of attempted murder during an arson attempt on Truman Avenue is being arraigned this morning in the burn unit of a Manhattan hospital.

He is charged with felony counts of second-degree attempted murder, first-degree arson and first-degree assault.

Ramapo Detective Lt. Mark Emma said detectives are investigating all avenues of the case, including who broke Rottenberg’s windows last week and those who attacked his house last autumn.

“We’re looking at all the incidents together,” Emma said, as he drove to Manhattan for the arraignment. We’re looking at whether the incidents were done collectively or people acting individually.”

Lets not be quick to condemn. First of all its a sad event but we must not allow those who are not so strong in their emnunah to be effected. We must realize that nothing in the world takes away the fact that G-d created the world and runs it as well. What needs to be done in square is to open a second square town for those who are not so strong in their practice of chassidus. The elite should remain in Square and use the one shul and the svacherer should go to the new square town where you can have 20 smaller shuls. NOT EVERYONE FITS INTO THE MARINES OR NAVY SEALS.

To comment 3: Funny how you refer to those who use intimidation and terrorism as the ones who are stronger in their chassidus and the elite. Sounds more like the Taliban than the Marines or Navy Seals.

Unfortunately the evidence is all there in front of our faces, Thise kult leadership as well many others turn a blind eye to the vandalism and terrorism done by their Chasidim and supporters for a very long time now, its in Gods grace that no deaths or more serious injuries did not take place till now.

the leaderships of all Chasidisha dynasties have got to take a good look at themselves now and make a cheshbon hanefesh how many more of their young and naive supporters they would want to get involved with this sort of behavior and end up facing Murder charges and life imprisonment .

The self centrism and the bad rotten egos of some are all the cause to what we see now in NS, had the leadership taken immediate action when a tire was flattened o r a window shattered it would’ve never come to this, evidently the leadership of that community chose not only to turn a blind eye to all of this, but to support these actions and to send out the young and naive to burn down a house without them knowing the consequences.

If anyone should be put in jail it shouldn’t be this young boy who was brain washed all his life, those who sent him should be put away for life.

I guess they consider davening in another shul to be moreid b’Malchus. If that is the case, reprogramming is urgently needed.

the saddest part is that the grand rebbe doesn’t find it important enough to come out and condem the violance. the Kol Koreh from the bes din, kehila and mosdos (which btw has no signatures) is a joke since everything in NS is controlled by the grand rebbe and he’s the only authority there.

At the end of the day the people behind this attack (who knows how high it goes)are indistinguishable from Bin Laden and the Taliban.

I am hoping the federal authorities step in, investigate this matter thoroughly, and bring the people behind it to justice. CSL and the town of Ramapo are in the back pocket of New Square and are incapable of conducting a real investigation.

It would be helpful if the Skvere rebbe would at least speak out and tell his chassidim that there is no inyan of “messirah” in this matter and that they should fully cooperate with the police investigating this horrible crime. Thats the least he can do to try and do mechillah for what happened here.

the bottom line is you cant fight city hall if you dont like square dont live there, they dont have minds of their own, if you dont conform right or wrong your condemned, there Rebe couldn’t care less about individuals the main goal is raising more money for square and square alone,by the way did the bachur wear his gartel while setting the fire?

To #8 Why should people be FORCED to move or sell their home at a loss? If they were to buy someplace else how much would they pay?? At lot more than they would get for their home!! This is still a free country and even the rebbe should not force people to do things!! If he told his chasidim to jump off the roof are they going to?? There is a limit!! Burning a person&#8 217;s house down &#8 212; OUT OF LINE!!

I don’t know why everyone is going crazy here, these morons in that town have been turning a blind eye to lots of other crimes and assault that has been going on there since day one. They don’t want to wake up and smell the coffee. I don’t want to knock and blame the rebbe because I don’t believe in that but my gosh cant some people in that town decide to do something about all this once and for all??!!!?

As a former skverer chusid I’m convinced this bucher didn’t act on his own.

No bucher has access to flammable liquid or the smarts to carry out such a despicable crime.

There is a reason why the bucher got lawyerd up so quickly.

In my opinion being a skverer chusid itself should be declared as a mental illness this would benefit also this poor bucher that his mind was manipulated by deranged people.

I feel terrible for Rabbi Rotenberg he should have a refuah shliema!
Not getting involved in the inside politics in NS, but I don’t believe that he really tried killing we are talking about a bochur who was raised in frum community and I really don’t think he tried hearting someone. He was prob not aware of what he himself was up too. It turned out very bad for both sides and its very sad.

Just reminding everybody that shortly after pesach a house from someone Austerlitz burned down to ashes in New Square. He was also one of those people that didn’t agree to daven with the rebbe’s minyan. But noone was caught in that act and it had no after effects, people thought it was a coincidence. Looks like it wasn’t after all and now these terrorists tried their luck again but failed!

Some poster mentioned that there’s a “takuna” by the previous rebbe that everybody should daven in the main shul. I know that the same rebbe mede a “takuna” that there should be no pictures of him.
How is it that pictures are being allowed if it’s against the rebbe’s “takuna”?

Since this is a legal town that must comply with the laws of the US there is no ability for them to enforce the rules of the kehilla except by intimidation.

But I don’t know of a psak that would allow this kind of thing.

My Rebbe Shalita lives in EY and I choose to follow his takunas because I have a tremendous amount of respect for him and his torah (no intimidation)

ok, so here’s what’s gonna happen:
    1. emergency charity defense fund will be established to raise millions for bucher’s defense
    2. bucher will be convicted; Hillary will intervene in Obama’s last days in office and pardon issued.
    3. Skverer Rebbe will issue statement praising the family that is willing to take this bucher as a son-in-law.
    4. Life will continue as before in the cult town of new square.
    5. victim will be forced to move and sell his house at a loss (to the skver kehilla, who will then resell at a large gain and use funds for said charity.

When one of the Rebbe’s chasidim was under house arrest after having served in jail for the Skverer government programs scandal, he begged to be allowed to have a minyan in his house for the tefilos.
Despite the fact that he had been imprisoned for a crime that did not benefit him personally, he was denied that “luxury” and was forced to daven beyechidus.

I became frum 30 years ago. I wish I knew then what I know. I can’t exactly tell the kids I was wrong at this point. What I see going on in the frum community today disheartening. The wackos are abound. We have to put a stop to all the non-sense that is breeding these wackos.

100% right. These young boys are hearing awful things from their parents and where are the adults in the community and the leaders, this is accepted behavior. Now the family of the perp will also pay dearly besides the victims and it just keeps going until someone in “power” will stop it. We haven’t heard from anyone in the “Higher Ups” and this is a shame.

The Skver Chasidim have destroyed their reputation amongst most Frum Jews. Their name has become mud. It will take decades if ever for them to repair the damage this crime has caused. Everyone knows that this act was the tip of the iceberg. There must be so much corruption going on for something like attempted murder of an entire family to occur. The only way for them to restore some trust is to come clean and work to have the leaders, who ordered this hit like in the maifia sent to jail. If they try to ignore this crime they will be rejected by the larger Frum community and they will become very issolated fom all other Jews which can have financial, social, and emotional immplications. I have already heard many mocking jokes made against the Skver and I have heard very uncomplimentary statements made against them as well. They got to clean up their act or they will pay the price.

The psychological term for the actions of the perpetrator and those in the community who backed him is “scapegoating.” It explains how a person or a group of people target an individual or even another group, and harass and bully them, starting with words and often culminating in violence. The scapegoat serves as a vent for the perpetrator’s anger, frustration, jealousy, etc. In harassing and intimidating the victim, the perpetrators can ignore unpleasant, uncomfortable feelings and thoughts in their own lives.

Goyim read about cases like this and they think all orthodox Jews are violent criminals and crazy. They can’t distinguish between different yarmulke types or chasidic sects. They just think all Jews -are violent and sexist. We must strive as a group to get along and to publicly denounce and ostracize violent, hateful extremists, so goyim realize these cases are the exception and not the norm. The enemy is more often greater inside the walls, than attacking from outside. We must be wise not to create extra chumras to appease extremists. It just leads to negativity and destruction.

I am a former Talmud of new square I lived in monsey I learned there for 10 years
I was a 100 student when I was 15 years old the kehilah decided that I need a little more yiras shmayim from the Rebbi so they told me that I can’t go home for shaboss anymore to monsey I have to stay in squre and stay up Friday night till 3:00 am by the rebbis tish I refused to stay for shaboss
So they kicked me out from yeshevah I left new square and whent on with my life and never looked back. I remember when I was a young kid learning in new square
There was a squad that they called the MESHKANTA SQUAD
they use to pick up teenagers that where bumms. wrap them in towels and beat the s”t out of them
How do I know this because my big brother was part of this squad
And he used to tell us all the jucy storeis. To this day I was very fond of the Rebbi and his chasidem
After this story I lost all respect for them
I know a lot of garbage that’s going on over there since the 1970s
But till now I was don lekav zichus
But this story takes the cake I am pissed to no end
    P. S. The victim is my relative. Years ago there a few people that learned breslov chasiddus
    They kicked them all out

ONCE AGAIN Im number 3 and 65 and I would like to add to my comments. I am not a squarer chosid but I hold of all frum Jews. We should not join those that heap scorn on rebbes. It is a dangerous path that can destroy young kids. I repeat you need to divide the different levels of spiritual ity in square into two neighborhoods. Anyone who has internet should live in the homowack hotel property that square bought. Only the elite squarers should live in the original square town. I think old people who cant walk to shul sholud have the option to move to the new squarer area where thee should be many steeblech. On simchas Torah all squarers should come together to the rebbe and dance united. Remember the marines and navy seals dont allow most people to join so too the elite area of square should be open to the qualified few. The hamoin am should live in a monsey type area exclusively square. This attack could of been avoided if they followed my advice. YOU CANT MIX KENOYIM AND SIMPLE PEOPLE TOGETHER. ELU VELU DIVREI ELOKIM CHAYIM.

The Torah tells us that when a meis mitzva is found, the zkeinim of the nearest city perform egla arufah. Part of the ceremony is them declaring “Yadein lo shafchu….” “We did not kill this person….” As the Gemara asks: Did we really think that they killed this person? They’re the Rabbanim of the town! Of course they didn’t kill him. But a leader is a leader and he takes responsibility for what happens in his town. The Rebbe would mamash be a gadol if he got up and said “As the leader of this town, I am responsible for everything that goes on here.”
It’s not easy but I think it would be a major step in the right direction.
