Washington – When Ronald Reagan ran for re-election in 1984, his slogan was “Morning in America.” For Barack Obama, it’s more like midnight in a coal mine.

The sputtering economy is about to stall out, unemployment is high, his jobs program may not pass, foreclosures are rampant and the poor guy can’t even sneak a cigarette.
His approval rating is at its lowest level ever. His party just lost two House elections — one in a district it had held for 88 consecutive years. He’s staked his future on the jobs bill, which most Americans don’t think would work.
The vultures are starting to circle. Former White House spokesman Bill Burton said that unless Obama can rally the Democratic base, which is disillusioned with him, “it’s going to be impossible for the president to win.” Democratic consultant James Carville had one word of advice for Obama: “Panic.”
But there is good news for the president. I checked the Constitution, and he is under no compulsion to run for re-election. He can scrap the campaign, bag the fundraising calls and never watch another Republican debate as long as he’s willing to vacate the premises by Jan. 20, 2013.
Will never happen
Wow even the left Chicago Tribune acknowledge it then he really have a poor chance to win
There have been more and more rumblings about Obama withdrawing from the race due to his dismal record as chief teleprompter reader.
Oilem goilem. The Democrats will suddenly find money, resurrect dead people, bring polling places to the asylums for those suffering dementia, and give illegal aliens and convicted felons the access to voting, only if they vote for Obama. I wish someone could get the saichel into the DNC that Obama, if allowed to run, will tank the party.
The president still has at his his lowest point more then 3 time the approval rate then congress has, which is 12%
I love it even liberals are finally waking up to it. Obama is an incompetent over his head. Liberalism is a failure. Poor charlie hall (who we haven’t heard from in a long time), your messiah is a fraud an empty suit. Next year we will have a republican president and it will be morning in america!
The article’s a little bit over the top. His approval rating is at its lowest level ever, but how does it compare to other presidents’ approval ratings? Given the dismal choices running for the Republican nomination, I fear Obama will win again.
to Mayer Freund: The general approval rating of Congress is irrelevant. Congress does not get elected as a single body. It’s individual members do. Each congress member is presumably a lot more popular in his/her disctrict than 12%.
Randolph Hearst would turn over if he would that the Chicago is called a liberal paper
On March 30, 1968, Lyndon Baines Johnson announced on nationwide television that “I shall not seek, nor will I accept, my party’s nomination for another term as your President”. Esxsentially, LBJ withdrew from the 1968 Presidential race. Therefore, Barack Hussein Obama should do everyone a favor, and make a similar announcement, and withdraw from the 2012 Presidential race; this would be for the good of the country. In private industry, if employees are not performing as they should be, they are shown the door. Why should it be any different for the Chief Executive?
Liberalism (from the Latin liberalis, “of freedom”) is the belief in the importance of liberty and equal rights. Liberals espouse a wide array of views depending on their understanding of these principles, but most liberals support such fundamental ideas as constitutionalism, liberal democracy, free and fair elections, human rights, capitalism, free trade, and the freedom of religion.
NeoYekke is wise. To all those who think that liberalism is the new blasphemy of the ages, I hope you get stronger by learning Torah.
Though he is very unpopular now he appears to be fighting back.
He is no longer talking about compromise with the Republicans. Instead he says that if they pass a tax bill that doesn’t raise the tax on the wealthy then he will veto it. That is a big change. We will see if he follows through.
As an earlier commenter said, the Republicans are not offering too much in the way of credible candidates.
Strange as it may seem, Obama just may pull it off and have a second term.
