Robert Gonzalez is the ideal candidate for the position of head of the Police Academy, say state Sen. Eric Adams and Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr.
The position has been vacant since Deputy Commissioner Wilbur Chapman retired last month. Gonzalez is an 18-year NYPD veteran who spent the past seven years assigned to the Police Academy. He also recently got his doctorate in instructional leadership.
He wants the gig and has sought an interview with Kelly, but has not gotten a response. “I think I have a fair chance to at least be interviewed and taken seriously,” Gonzalez told the Daily News. “I have the qualifications.”
Adams and Diaz, both Democrats, last week wrote Kelly, urging him to consider Gonzalez.
I have an idea. Why not appoint the most qualified person available?
