Memphis, TN – Former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.) on Sunday attacked Mitt Romney for “unseemliness and overkill” in his aggressive campaign against Newt Gingrich, the candidate Thompson has endorsed.

Romney’s “modus operandi, basically, is to play Mr. Nice Guy until somebody gets close to him,” Thompson said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” “And then he unleashes his attack machine. And that’s what happened in Iowa and it’s what’s happening in Florida.”
Thompson said that a story in Sunday’s New York Times depicts “Romney’s staff … patting themselves on the back, talking about how mean and down they are. How they’ve got Matt Drudge in their back pocket. And how Romney is in on all of it.”
For months, Drudge has been running a steady stream of pro-Romney and anti-Gingrich stories on his website, Drudge Report.
Please is Mitt the most right wing or awesome candidate no way.
But he’s 100x better then Newt, if the main goal is to beat Obama, then Newt and Paul can’t be are pick to run agaisnt him.
Romney ain’t no Reagan. NEWT has the experience and he’s from the 99% . Romney is from the 1% with all his money offshore…………..
What a shame that Mitt is letting himself down so low to use such ugly lies against a fellow republican. An editorial in the Wall Street Journal brings out very clearly the hypocrisy of Romney’s newest line of false attacks against Newt Gingrich’s ethics record. True conservatives are all rallying behind Gingrich. Newsmax which is the biggest conservative news outlet is fully supporting Newt, and so are the likes of Palin and Limbaugh. Unfortunately the people with the power and the money are doing everything in the world to make Mitt win and even though the conservative vote is much greater than the Mitt vote it seems like the old dirty tricks are working and the republican party will have a nominee that does not represent them.
As a neutral onlooker, I am bemused by how pro-Gingrich bloggers somehow find it deplorable when Mitt Romney maligns his opponent, yet consider it perfectly acceptable for Gingrich to denigrate Romney. Hypocrisy of the first order is what I’d call it.
Romney can’t be trusted, with his friend Charlie Crust. Now he’s spreading his influence (money) to Matt Drudge, so now he is suspect, but l will vote for NEWT, he was the first man to stand up to the hated media and their agenda.
