Women’s rights groups welcomed the step but said that even if the measure is signed into law it is no guarantee that it will change the face of the rabbinical courts, which have jurisdiction over divorce proceedings.

good. They are 50% of the Jewish People & deserve as much representation.
Plus, between you & me …. the women are usually wiser than men!

I know that there are restrictions regarding when a woman can be a witness under halacha but are there similiar restrictions on a woman being either (1) a judge or (2) a member of a judicial appointment panel? In EY, nearly half of the committee that reccomends women to the civil courts are women and there certainly are many qualified women lawyers and others trained in halacha (rabbanits??) who would be logical candidates to serve on these panels? Why should 50 percent of the population have no representation on the beis dins.

#2 -isn’t that a racist statement? Surely if someone said that men are wiser than women it would be deemed racist! Is the other way around perhaps more politically correct?

if women may not be appointed on the panel, the rabbinical courts have no right to enforce any laws upon them. Keep the Bais Din a private and not a government matter,. Whoever wants to abide by it may. Whoever chooses not to doesn’t have to.

#8 According to your lady mentality &#8 211; beis din can&#8 217;t pasken unless half of them (1.5) are ladies?
    You are silly!
That&#8 217;s why ladies don&#8 217;t belong in beis din or the panel who appoints them!
Even though I maskim there are very smart ladies, for example my mother in law, I always take her advice, but even she doesn&#8 217;t belong in beis din!
