Officer Kevin Brennan remains in critical but stable condition Wednesday at Bellevue Hospital.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said doctors removed a bullet from the right base of the 29-year-old officer’s skull.
Police apprehended the suspected shooter, Luis Ortiz, about two hours after the Tuesday night shooting.
It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
Brennan and two other plainclothes anti-crime officers were responding to a report of shots fired at the Bushwick Houses public housing project around 9 p.m. Police say they encountered three individuals running from a building.
Police say the officers gave chase and one of the suspects turned and fired a shot, striking Brennan.
Luis “Baby” Ortiz, 21, was in police custody shortly after 11:30 p.m. for allegedly shooting Police Officer Brennan, in East Williamsburg.
Authorities say Ortiz was wanted for questioning in connection with a homicide that took place on New Year’s Day.
Ok, listen. Instead of Mayor Bloomberg calling for more gun control, let’s give try this guy; if found guilty can he be publically executed? We need to apply the death penatly to case of murder. It is time to stop being nice to evil people and being cruel to good people.
WOW !!! Lucky him He must be really thick headed !!! More guns = less crime !!!
