Litchfield, CT – The Borough of Litchfield—a sub-layer of town government—celebrated victory in the longstanding case that divided the community.

“We’re all very pleased that it seems to have worked out,” said Joseph Montebello, the current chairman of the Historic District Commission.
“After examining all the evidence which the Chabad could produce, the court found that the Chabad’s lawyers failed ‘to raise a material issue of fact with regard to its conspiracy claim,’” said James Stedronsky, the attorney for the Litchfield Borough. In other words, there were no facts to present to a jury. The judge simply threw the whole case out.”
But the possibility of an appeal was raised by Rabbi Joseph I. Eisenbach, head of the group Chabad Lubavitch of Litchfield County.
In an e-mail, Rabbi Eisenbach said, “Our hopes for being able to build our FULL synagogue, has met a little bump in the road.”
“Our counsel and board are reviewing the legal documents, and deciding our next step,” the rabbi added. “Chabad philosophy teaches us that the darkest moment of the night comes right before dawn.”

Something fishy with the story. Chabad does not have a board.
The ruling had nothing to do with anti-Semitism or trying to run Chabad out of town, they just don’t want modern expansion of a historic building. That’s a legitimate concern. Chabad can buy some empty property outside of town to build their campus, like they have done in other cities.
Every corporation has a board.
They do! They have chalk and boards, to write on for lectures, so he will bring his board and chalk to court to explain his point.
This is actually comical – AT OUR EXPENSE….
While Chabad does an awesome job, they messed this one up.

Sad. Yossi Eisenbach is a good man, but he got himself some rotten legal advice to come up with this Nazi idea (or he came up with it and his lawyer couldn’t come up with a better strategy). There was discrimination, but Litchfield is hardly Nazi Germany (it along with the rest of the country may be Weimar redux if Obama is re-elected but that is another story altogether).
