LAs Vegas, NV – Sheldon Adelson plays as stubbornly in politics as he does in business. So the criticisms that he’s trying to personally buy the presidential election for Newt Gingrich are met with a roll of the eyes. “Those people are either jealous or professional critics,” Adelson tells me during his first interview since he and his wife began funneling $11 million, with another $10 million injection widely expected, into the former speaker’s super PAC, Winning Our Future. “They like to trash other people. It’s unfair that I’ve been treated unfair—but it doesn’t stop me. I might give $10 million or $100 million to Gingrich.”

Adelson, the 78-year-old CEO of casino giant Las Vegas Sands, certainly can afford to: With a net worth of roughly $25 billion, that $11 million, which jolted Gingrich’s flatlining presidential bid back to life, equates to 0.044% of his fortune. For someone with a $1 million net worth, the equivalent would be $440, or a two-night stay at Adelson’s Venetian casino. Adelson could personally fund an entire presidential campaign—say, $1 billion or so—and not even notice.
I seem to recall Adelson supports Jewish causes. Am I right?
This is the problem in America. Smart, intelligent Conservatives have NO chance of winning. Liars, propagandists and panderers (Gingrich qualifies for all 3!) are the only ones who can get the money needed. All these Super PACs have done is make a mockery of our election system.
Once again, the .01% have *ALL* the power in our election system, and the people have none. This is why PACs, Super PACs and things like this are a cancer in our system.
We should be using public money for campaigns and the money should be distributed to each candidate based on each state’s population and obtaining SIGNATURES from potential voters in each state. Make these people get out and WORK for our votes. Make these people have to serve OUR interests and not the interests of “issue groups”. Let’s remove political contributions from the system altogether! I bet if we did, you’d see the Democratic and Republican parties shrivel up to nothing.
BTW: Sheldon Adelson is worth $20+ billion. Why would he even care who the President is. He can buy and sell us all 20 times over. No matter who the President is, he wins because his money will always guarantee him access.
Adelson is under great suspicion for his “contacts” in the gambling business in Las Vegas. Some “Jew” he is……
Leider, his intention is to prevent Ron Paul from attaining anything because the interests of the medina come FIRST, SECOND and THIRD for people who Adelson supports.
Looks to me like he has shoveled a lot more money at Newt Gingrich than at any Jewish cause.
I stayed at the Venetian in Las vegas and couldnt get a penny off my room rate..Next time i will check in as a republican….
