Councilman Jumaane Williams said the officer’s name, rank and unit would be on the cards — and that his bill is aimed at curbing unwarranted police profiling of minorities.

Williams said the rule would apply only to uniformed officers — not undercover cops.

Williams’ business card proposal is part of a three-part bill aimed at protecting New Yorkers from unlawful police searches.

Also, the bill would require cops to alert a target that they have the right to refuse to give consent to a search.

Williams is just trying to get his name in the papers / milking his detention back at the Labor Day Parade and pandering to the minorities. Next time he should come up with an idea on how to stop the violence rather than this nonsence.

let the stop and frisk. live legally and you wont have an issue

Why not. They should have the law for every stop.
What’s going on altogether? A target has a right to refuse? Please enlighten me.

This is a great idea! Most police officers are law abiding and this will help weed out the rotten apples. The Yassamnikim in Israel should be required to do the same!

Pay attention because Jumaine is a good guy, not a hot head. What happens to some can and does happen to frum people also.

They need to cut out “Stop and Frisk” completely. Searches should only be on arrest or with probable cause. “Because I’m a Cop and I say so” is not probable cause.

    B”H

The NYPD should not be allowed to stop and frisk 600,000 to 700,000 people a year and only very small percentage are doing anything wrong at all

This is not communist china, russia, germany, etc. — its AMERICA

Stop these Gestapo or NVKD or KGB tactics— they are wrong-

This is a great idea! They should be required to give their card after every incident . This would eliminate unwanted confrontations with police officers . Whenever you ask them for their name and ID number they get offended and they become nasty . They might even give you another ticket just for asking . It’s like, how dare you ask my name. They feel they can do anything to you. They’re above the law. This would give people the ability to complain about an officer without getting into an argument.

Wonderful idea, its a shame Greenfeld didn’t come up with it. I guess he’s busy with the sanitation stickers (btw they’re still using them)
