London – Proposal For An Eruv In Camden Gains Traction

London – A proposal to establish an eruv in Camden has won the approval of 600 people, with just a 130 people opposing the measure.

The Hampstead and Highgate Express writes (http://bit.ly/NMOf7I) that Camden Council has received hundreds of letters of support from members of the community regarding a plan to install over 90 poles in order to create an 18-mile circle around Hampstead, South Hampstead, West Hampstead, Belsize Park and Gospel Oak.

South Hampstead Synagogue rabbi, Shlomo Levin, who spearheaded this eruv effort, said there has been overwhelming support for the proposal, and that only a few detractors say the eruv will prove “divisive.” Some opponents say they are concerned that the eruv will creature “unnecessary street clutter.”
The council planning committee has not yet scheduled a date to review the plans.
