Washington – Sen. Charles Schumer says requiring universal background checks is something that could pass Congress despite political opposition to gun control.

Schumer, a New York Democrat, says he’d like to see an assault weapons ban pass, too. But he says passing gun control measures is not easy.
Because enforcing background checks on all gun purchases doesn’t change the rules on who can own guns, Schumer says he sees it as “a way to come to the middle and get something real done.” Right now, advocates say some 40 percent of gun sales occur without background checks, such as those at gun shows.
Schumer spoke to reporters at the Capitol Monday. Vice President Joe Biden is expected to endorse universal background checks in recommendations Tuesday to President Barack Obama.

They’re really after registration, if I buy 3 guns and sell 2 to different buyers, how are they going to know who bought what? How exactly is this going to work? And who is going to pay for it?
Let’s do background checks on politicians. If they are womanizers, alcoholics, don’t pay their debts, don’t pay their taxes, take anti-depressants they should be removed from office. Oh no, there goes 90% of them!

The first four commenters want it to continue to be legal for dangerous people like Jared Loughner to get guns. What about MY rights to be protected from people like that?
NOBODY should be able to get a firearm without a background check. And ANYBODY who gives a dangerous person a gun should be prosecuted as a gun trafficker. PERIOD.
