Yaakov “Jack” Tytell, a U.S. immigrant to a settlement in the occupied West Bank, confessed to the killings. Efforts by his lawyers, one whom quoted him as saying he had been on a “mission from God”, to have him declared insane failed.
The court convicted him of murdering a Palestinian taxi driver in Jerusalem and a shepherd in the West Bank city of Hebron, while visiting Israel as a tourist in 1997.
Tytell moved to Israel 12 years ago and in 2008 planted bombs that injured a left-wing Israeli academic and a teenager who belonged to a group of Jews who follow the teachings of Jesus.
He admitted to the series of attacks, and flashed a V-for-Victory sign at the hearing, where sentencing was set for next month.
After Tytell’s arrest in 2009, he told investigators he had acted alone and was not part of any anti-Arab Jewish underground. He was detained by police while hanging posters in Jerusalem praising a still-unsolved shooting that year that killed two people at a community center for gay youngsters in Tel Aviv.
They should lock him up for life (since EY doesn’t have capital punishment in most cases). There has to be some deterrent against these right wing lunatics from acting out their messianic and divine instruction fantasies
remove that smile idiot.
Hi is probably somewhat insane but obviously a danger so needs to be locked up. A mental hospital or jail but he’s clearly delusional & dangerous.
what a disgrace, this is not Jewish values! jewish values dont kill innocent people. whats the victory sign all about?
First off, it is outrageous for a Jewish and I suspect mostly frum site to refer any part of the land of Israel as “occupied West Bank”. This land is our truly G-d given heritage and if there are occupy ers it is the Arabs living in it
Second, Yaacov Tytell is a murderer and probably criminally insane but sane enough to know what he did and receive maximum punishment. But I am in dispute with Anonymous who considers him as one of the “right wing lunatics”. Does your definition of the term include all those learning in header yeshivas, serving in elite IDF units, living and raising families throughout “occupied ” West Bank communities in order that there will be an Israel for future generations. Perhaps you do not believe that Israel as described in tenach was really given to us as an inheritance which we must preserve
It gets to a point where it boils over and in certain circumstances, result in what this individual has been convicted of.
I’m not justifying what this person did, however I can understand his frustrations.
At the time of these killings, back in 1997, unlike today with the wall in place, bus bombiings were a common occurrence in Israel, with no end in sight.
The worthless Oslo accords were leading Israel into the abyss.
Frustrations were high.
For an individual to go off the beaten path under those conditions, and kill two Palestinians, whilst not justified, could possibly be understood, under those mitigating circumstances.
let him loose and unarm in nablus and then let the locals know. problem solved
