San Antonio – Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott has a message for New York gun owners: Come to Texas, and bring your guns with you.

“Texas is better than New York, and New York just gave us another excuse to say that,” Abbott, a Republican, said on Thursday, after ads extolling Texas appeared on several media websites.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo, a Democrat, signed sweeping gun-control legislation earlier this week expanding the state’s ban on assault weapons and putting limits on ammunition capacity in the wake of last month’s school shootings in Connecticut.
Abbott, a possible candidate for governor of Texas in next year’s election, used campaign money to buy ads on websites of news organizations in New York City and Albany.
One ad says in classic Western script: “WANTED: Law abiding New York gun owners seeking lower taxes and greater opportunities.”
Clicking on the ad leads to a Facebook page touting the virtues of Texas, including the fact that the state has no income tax so “you’ll be able to keep more of what you earn and use that extra money to buy more ammo.”
Abbott told Reuters the ads are a “way to tweak our liberal friends up in the Northeast.”
“It is tongue in cheek, but there is a deeper message here,” he said. “Texas really does stand as the last bastion of ultimate freedom in this country. Over the last decade, more than 4 million people moved to this state, and one reason is freedom and one reason is economic opportunity.”
Abbott has said he will file a federal lawsuit to throw out any nationwide gun restrictions implemented by Congress.
A Cuomo spokesman did not immediately respond to an emailed request for comment.
Probably True. NY is becoming increasingly difficult to live in. I wonder what the shooting statistics are like in Texas?
i cant agree more with the ag of texas.
If I had a job there, I would move there in a min
Where else can you buy housing inside an eruv for under $60 per square foot?
No state income tax!
“Shall-issue” concealed handgun licensing.
Pro-business government.
“Right-to-work” state.
Self-defense rights.
“Common-sense” tort reform, including reasonable limits on malpractice judgments.
And one of the highest employment rates in the nation!
Hope that all the gun nuts take him up on the offer.
Texas has a higher State Tax than Maryland, althoughit has some top hospital worst health record and of course all gun nuts should assemble there in order to located in one area
To #4 - If people wish to svitz in the summertime, from the heat and humidity, then by all means move to Texas. Last summer, there was a period of nearly 30 straight days over 100 degrees in the Dallas area. Also, when it snows in Dallas, the locals are not very well prepared for the ice and snow removal, as they are lacking sufficient snow removal equipment. When there was a shortage of natural gas during the 1970’s, and people turned to Texas for its overabundance of natural gas, some locals grumbled, “Let those Yankee (expletives deleted) freeze”. Unfortunately, the attitude of many people in Texas towards those from the north and from the east, has not changed that much over the years. No, I would not feel comfortable living in Texas.
Texas Is the real America lets all pack up and move there and leave all the crap to the crappers it’s about time
Inertia.
It’s like the chasidishe rebbe who visited some of his chasidim who moved to LA. He asked the rest of his chasidim–“when we came from Europe to America, how come we had to stop in Brooklyn?”
Left NY 30 years ago. Never been happier. Still don’t own cowboy boots or guns.
For those that ask, I live in Houston, the community here is small but growing.
Yes, it gets HOT here.
Yes, wages are lower – but so is the cost of living. Homes in the eruv where I live are less than $60 per square foot. Houston is HUGE, if it gets too expensive they just build another shul – costs stay low.
I spent two hours with a young immigrant from Brooklyn, he loves it here, came by choice.
Y’all ought to come check it out, just leave the big government ideas behind!
Dallas probably has the more well-know frum community, as in #6 .
Houston has grown tremendously in the last 10 years we’ve been here. Young Israel (rather black hat these days) has almost doubled its membership. There are also more modern kehillos; Sefardi; Chabad is much larger than most out-of-town places. Beren (remember the frum basketball players?) has pre-K to 12th grade. Toras Emes has 150-200 kids, pre-K to 6th + a small girls HS. Chabad has 50-100 kids preK-8th. 2 pizza places, 2 Israeli places, 2 mikvaos. You can buy a 4 bdrm house for around $200K.
But come with a job. Texas is a stand-on-your-own state with limited State benefits.
And, as we like to say, you don’t have to shovel humidity.
