Sixty-seven-year-old Samuel Mullet Sr. was sentenced Friday in Cleveland federal court. Judge Dan Aaron Polster also was to sentence 15 of Mullet’s extended family members.

The 10 men and six women were convicted last year in five attacks in Amish communities in 2011.

Prosecutors say the attacks were retaliation against Amish who had defied or denounced Mullet’s authoritarian style. They sought a life term.

Mullet’s lawyer calls it an internal matter that didn’t rise to a hate crime. The attorney had asked for a sentence of two years or less.

Amish believe the Bible instructs women to let their hair grow long and men to grow beards once they marry. Cutting it would be offensive to Amish.

It’s about what I figured. The Prosecution asked for life. The Defense wanted a few months with time served. The judge handed down something right in the middle of the sentencing guidelines

15 Years for cutting someones beard that’s crazy. And the worst part is that they will cost taxpayers a few million bucks

Oh wait. Now I get it. It’s a “hate” crime.

So all other assaults are done purely out of love?

The Feds add a magic word to conduct that’s really not that bad just so they can throw the book at someone. Lying on a loan application is somehow “mail fraud”, 27 years.

    Ridiculous

A chasid would probably get 103 years.

They should “tar & feather” him. That would suffice.

Must be antisemitism like Weberman right??? or maybe they were sending a message of zero tolerance for hate just like they did with sexual abuse in the frum community.

The beard-with-no-moustache makes them look like garden gnomes.

This guy was a sicko in nprecedented ways. If you read about the rules of this guys cult(of which I don’t think is proper to spell out explictly) you will see he is far worse than weberman. Only 15 years a tragedy

If Weberman had gotten 103 years back in the 70s for cutting Fetta Pinya’s beard…who knows how much pain might have been avoided ?
