Jerusalem – Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef on Saturday evening criticized Yesh Atid Party leader Yair Lapid as “contemptible” and a “yeshiva hater.”

Yosef’s comments come amid coalition negotiations in which Lapid’s insistence on increasing the haredi army draft is at odds with Shas’s position.

Lapid is not Shas’s first political opponent that Yosef has lambasted during his weekly Saturday evening sermon. During the election campaign, Yosef lashed out at the Bayit Yehudi party, calling it a “house for goyim” that religious Jews should not vote for.

The rabbonim are scared stiff of Lapid since he speaks the unvarnished truth. Maybe they’re still in touch enough to realize that truth will win out over their falsehoods in the long run.

Note that Lapid’s #2 is a Rosh Yeshiva, Shai Peron.

Why try to be a dignified ambassador to Torah when you can just sling mud?

Nothing says Rosh Chodesh Adar Malaveh Malkka quite like a little Loshon Horah.

I voted for the “house of goyim” and I am proud of it ! I only now regret that I couldn’t have also voted for the contemptible yeshiva hater. It is funny how all the frummies closed ranks on the draft issue….all with rhetoric about how torah will be destroyed if a few bench warmers go serve in the army and go earn a living with dignity… Sorry, you can say it but I just dont buy it, you have lost my respect.

What a disgrace for such a supposedly esteemed Rabbi and Talmid Chacham to resort to such cheap name calling. Instead of building bridges, they are tearing them down. We were already exiled twice for sinat chinam, will there be a third time? A Rabbi such as Rav Yosef who has so much influence should be using it to do good in this world, not inspire hatred between Jew and Jew.

” Do as I say, not as I do” Why don’t certain people set by example the qualities they preach.? Someone is out of control, the power gone to his head.

Isn’t the weekly shiur of rav Yosef supposed to be in Torah? As it turnes out, it has become a lecture in politics.
    Whatever happened to Bitul Torah?

Rabbi Ovadia is a great Talmud Chacham, all you commentators saying he should “build bridges” talk “positive” etc.are naive and are not even close to his great daas torah, he sees a threat for the future of the Jewish nation and he wont talk nice he will cry and scream and try to defend klal yisroel, let the house of goyim and the torah hater try to touch our yeshivas like the tzar in Russia, we still have our gedolim praying for hashem to save us from modern days Haman.
