The FPO said Wednesday that Fabian Wetter resigned from the party and as alderman of the Upper Austrian town of Franking.

The other official, Michael Linder, remains the head of the party’s youth section in the Upper Austrian town of Ried. He is being investigated for postings showing him in a T-shirt with the logo of a neo-Nazi heavy metal group and a citation from a poem popular with the Hitler Youth.

Wetter also posted a photo-montage of Merkel displaying a Star of David. Expressing pro-Nazi sentiments is illegal in Austria.

Nazism is baked into the DNA of Germans and Austrians. People like Merkel are strong enough to fight the fascist urge, but many others aren’t. Germans still believe, deep down, that they are the master race.
