Queens, NY – A Brooklyn rabbi is being accused of trying to lure trough online messages an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old girl to meet for sex.

The Brooklyn district attorney’s office says the Rabbi was arrested Wednesday after he showed up at a pre-arranged meeting in Queens.

He’s being held pending arraignment on charges of attempted rape, attempted criminal sexual act and attempted endangering the welfare of a child. A telephone message left with his attorney was not immediately returned.

“It is disturbing that a man who is supposed to be held in high esteem by the community in which he lives would allegedly try to lure a child to meet him for sex,” Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said.

Authorities say the 59-year-old rabbi, who also operates a tour business, faces up to four years in prison if convicted.

Must be early in the day, since I have not seen anyone post “entrapment, antisemitism etc.” The man is innocent until proven guilty by a court of law, however what was he doing on the internet looking for 14yo girls, perhaps he was mistaken and was looking for 14yo boys? This is not normal, we must look retrospectively into why we are seeing such abhorent behaviour amongst our leaders, community and respected individuals. These acts should not be swept under the rug, we must make an effort to teach that this is not the Torah way. Imposition of ban’s on internet and other forms of media do not help. Human nature dictates that we must have what we are prohibited from having. Example prohabition of liquor, it did not stop bootlegging nor did it stop people from becoming drunks. Only education will acheive goals and prevention.

We’ve abused the title “Rabbi”, we’re the ones to blame for the secular press labeling us all Rabbis. If we’d be willing to forgo a little of our ‘Kavod’ and not put up a fuss when people address us as Mr. we can save on the chilull hashem’s

he unfortunatly is a rav and authored a number of seforim, a historian, speaker and expert on antique judaica a brilliant man
he ran tours during the summers in europe italy etc being an expert on old kehillas and their relevent history
this is a case in point where technology, internet ,i phones ,etc has tempted and over come even those who are well respected in our frum community not for naught are all the gedolim saying this is the nisoyon of our generation and the churban of our frum society

he is not only Rav , he is a Moreh D’Asra

I find that the term , “Moreh D’Asra” is a pompous and offensive Yeshivishe term, and should be eliminated forthwith.

the Chofetz Chaim explains that you arre not allowed to accept this news being 100% accurate. you aqre allowed to protect yourself. he is not guilty till proven in beth din.
if 1 witness comes to rabinical court, then the dayanim has no purpose to listen because without 2 witnesses the dayanim can’t punish the person that might have done something wrong.

VIN removed his name. Cut and paste the story into Google and it is easy to learn who this is and what his tour comapny is. Seems he gives shiurim on his tours. This is another sad and bad chillul Hashem.

We need to learn more mussar and get our collective act together. Pronto!

millions are raped here in the USA yearly no headlines no 103 curse and never mentioned which religion they belong to..

Big deal. He was entrapped by a sting operation to go with a teenage girl. My grandparents married at 13. Should they get locked up. We should grow our beards longer and tell the world we are the best. Our community is safe all the time. Try walking in non Jewish areas. I have become more extreme last three years and the more I read about the secular world opposing us here with bloombergs hate of Judaism as well as in Israel,I get stronger as a Jew .

Better he be caught now, than after the fact – the police sting actually saved him from acting on his Yetzer Hora. B”H. Yes he may be jailed – but better than after the fact. Its a lesser Chillul H’ this way too. Always look at the positive.

The man who cut his beard and payos because of his loss of faith in the integrity of Yiddishkeit today is part of growing number of people who feel this way. Many people stay in the community and keep the dress but really have been disenfranchised for valid reasons.

The people here whose comments are dismissing this person and belittleing him are a part of the very problem.

If we are not willing to take seriously and to pay attention to people like matters will only become worse.

In todays society where we’re being bombarded with scantly clad women and a deluge of promiscuity what can one expect ? do we expect a MAN not to act on his natural urges ? does this now make the man a sub-human less worthy of anyone of us ? It’s not like this man forced himself on someone younger then himself.

Let us not repeat the errors of our exile in egypt by putting all our faith in americanism, remember our truth is G-D and his Torah and with this will we merit a speedy redemption.

Crazy, crazy comments.

“He is/in not a Rabbi. He is/is not a businessman. He was trapped. My grandparents married at 13 so he is innocent. Not guilty until judged. Why is he on the internet? millions are raped here in the USA yearly. etc”

A 59 year old was caught in the middle of an illegal act, expecting to have sex with a 13 year old. No excuses. End of story.

Out of the 400,000 Orthodox Jews there will always be “sour apples” and crimes committed by chassidim – there is virtually no way to stop that.
There are hundreds of crimes each day in Brooklyn – I’m sure there are African Americans Hispanics and Whites caught each day like this “Rabbi” the same way through undercover agents.

The problem is when we are singled out.

1- When the News and the DA will post and prosecute Orthodox Jews (almost every case) ignore everyone else.

2- When an Orthodox Jew or Hassid is labled based on their race. (Did you ever hear about a “black molester”).

How tragic. This man destroyed his entire life’s work, his successful business, his reputation, the members of his family, and made a massive chilul Hashem causing embarassment to every Jew in the world. May we all learn the lesson which some of us seem to forget. NOTHING IS HIDDEN from Hashem and nowadays, nothing is hidden from ANYONE. Let us work on actualizing the words we say every morning in our prayers: “A person should always strive to be God fearing in private and in public, admit the truth and speak truth in his heart.” This is not easy to do. But we have to work on doing this better and better every day of our lives. Whenever we feel like doing something wrong, let us remember that we have to act in private the same way we act in public.

Are our Yeshivos teaching yiras shomayim or are they teaching how to become a Godol?
So long greatness in Gemoro is the only achievment we can strive for, and no ruchnius is added to our sylabus, from a young age, things will only get worse.
