It starts with a fall (broken hip) and ends with a funeral. Sorry for his illness but he’s done too much damage to Israel while he was active in gov’t.

One of the greatest unhanged war criminals of the 20th century is in hospital. He should be in prison.

Without him, Israel would be a memory. But on the other hand, he made many mistakes. I suppose that makes him more or less like the rest of us.

As Ricky Recardo used to say to Lucy, he’ll have a lot of ‘splaining’ to do when he gets to the other side of the fence.

In fact, President Richard M. Nixon saved EY during the Yom Kippur war, by ordering an aerial resupply of tanks, shells, ammunition, bombs, rockets, and fighter jets. Whereas the C-141, and gigantic Galaxy C-5’s were flown non-stop from Delaware, through the Azores, over the Mediterranean to Israel (the Europeans would no permit any American resupply effort to fly over Europe), this was not the case with the fighter jets. They were flown directly off aircraft carriers, and from the East coast. As Nixon stated “Give them everything we’ve got”. While it is true that Sharon won miraculous victories in the Sinai and in Egypt (i.e. The Battle of the Chinese Farm, and his crossing to the west of the Suez Canal), the fact of the matter is that the resupply effort saved Israel. Golda Meier was quoted as saying “For generations, all will be told of the immense planes from the United States, which meant life for our people”. Personally, I could care less about Nixon’s personal attitudes towards Jews. When the chips were down, and when nobody else in the entire world would help EY, he stepped in, and resupplied her. He and Golda Meir genuinely liked and respected each other.

So much hatred – from so many small-minded people. It’s both astonishing and depressing to read.
